It does this for me all the time. It eventually corrects itself. No rhyme or reason that I can see.

This happened to me

It seemed to correct itself when I went on holiday (Shang Simla to be precise), although the counter reset (the save 30 sims in the firefighter career)

It is the first time I see this. My sim's disapear and she didnt even fulfill her lifetime wish! I wonder what will happen when she does.
