Can't gift pet

Hello, my last post got great success so I'm trying a new problem.

I play this game on the PS3 and so does my wife, she wants to get rid of a pet but it wont let her gift it to me, we are on the same console but under separate accounts and we are friends on the accounts.

If anyone has any thoughts I will give them a try.
