Chapter 7: The Prophecy Carlos Cortez was sitting in first class in seat 3B. The plane was scheduled to take off in 5 minutes. The destination? Shang Simla, China. He had gone through a lot of trouble for this ticket; driving undercover to the airport to avoid the paparazzi, having to tell his boss he was taking the week off, and getting through his wife so he could actually get out of the house in one piece. He was going to enjoy this vacation. There would be no crying, lots of adventuring, and regular sleeping hours.
I deserve this vacation, he thought as he asked for another glass of nectar
and I’m going to enjoy it. An increasingly large amount of hours later, he had arrived in the ancient city. He checked out base camp, and was surprised that he enjoyed the environment. He was so used to glamour and expensive things it was nice to just see some regular, but simple objects. However it was a good thing basically nobody in China recognized him, he just wanted to explore in peace.
He started off with a beginner’s tomb for some experience, but he finished it in no time. The merchant who gave him the adventure quickly understood that this was no helpless tourist. Carlos was immediately set on 3 more tombs, until finally he was given the quest to find Pangu’s Axe.
The problem was that Carlos was hungry, tired, and stressed out. He ended up buying a tent, some dried food, and a book to read. However, he still wanted to find the axe first thing in the morning so he decided to sleep as close to the entrance to the tomb as possible. Later, Carlos realized how stupid he had been.
He awoke in the middle of the night because of someone moving around outside. He was half asleep, freezing, and in his underwear so it wasn’t the ideal time to go looking for trouble. Nevertheless he grabbed his hiking stick (as a weapon of course!) and opened the tent flap. For a moment he was blinded by the darkness and when he recovered, there she was.
It was a ghost. Carlos had seen the ghost of his grandmother when she died and was sure that the poor soul in front of him had died of old age just like his Granny. The ghost was bright silver all over, with hair running all the way to its waist. When it turned, Carlos saw it was an old woman wearing an old fashioned night gown. When she spotted him, she grinned slightly and beckoned him to follow with a single, wrinkled finger. He grabbed his robe and followed.
Now let’s just remember that this man had been sleeping in a tent in front of one of China’s most dangerous tombs, so we already know he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. But he was a fearless father of 3 toddlers, and some say if you can get through that you can get through anything.
The ghost didn’t walk, but glided along to lead Carlos wherever it was he apparently needed to go to. They crossed rivers, walked through the dead silent market, and passed the adventure board until they finally stopped. They were in one of the peaks of the mountains, not too far from the base camp. Carlos was thinking how glad he was that he brought his walking stick, when he noticed that the ghost was unveiling a tiny tunnel that he hadn’t noticed before. She smiled back at him, and then disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Carlos was speechless. He’d just climbed past half of China in order to get to a hole that one of the triplets couldn’t have crawled through, and his guide disappeared!!! He wasn’t completely stupid though, he looked around and saw a crate of fireworks that were probably left over from the New Year’s celebration a couple of months ago. He lit a few, tossed them in the tunnel, covered his ears, and ran. He knew from experience that fireworks are much more powerful than they seem, so it was no surprise to him that when he turned back the tunnel was completely blown open and was ready for him to crawl inside.
Carlos crawled in, and after a few minutes of crawling he hit a sort of slide/shoot thing. He didn’t hesitate for a moment and threw himself down it.
He landed with a large- THUMP! -and quickly picked himself off the ground. It was clear that he was deep inside the mountain. He was actually in a small, but pleasantly cozy cavern. But once he actually got a good look around the entire thing, he knew this cavern wasn’t a simple hideaway.
The ghost was back, but this time she didn’t seem as interested in what Carlos was doing. She had her eyes closed and was sitting criss-crossed in the center of a mat. She was surrounded by 3 little jars full or bright light, as though there were a bunch of fireflies trapped in them. She began to meditate, humming low notes and raising a couple of inches of the ground. Suddenly the 3 jars burst open, sending glass everywhere. The balls of light went, one by one, literally inside the woman’s chest, practically consuming her. She opened her eyes, but they were no longer the silver of the dead. Instead they were a piercing yellow. She stood up, as though possessed, and opened her mouth to utter what would change Carlos’s life forever.
THERE WILL BE 3 GIRLS, BORN TO THE BRIGHTEST CELEBIRTIES OF BRIDGEPORT AND NAMED FOR 3 OF THE GREATEST BEINGS EVER. THEY WILL GROW AND LEARN IN THE EYES OF THEIR COMMUNITY AND WILL LIVE UP TO THEIR DESTINY. THE GREAT 3 WILL SOON TAKE ON THE ROLES OF THEIR NAMESAKES, AND WILL REPEAT THE MYTHS MANY TIMES OVER. THEY WILL PROVE TO DO GREAT THINGS, BUT ALSO TERRIBLE ONES. THEY WILL HAVE MORE POWER THAN THE STARS THEMSELVES. Carlos stood there, terrified for a moment. Then he ran as fast as he could. He used a climbing grapple to haul himself back up the slide. He ran back to the base camp, and immediately got on the computer.
Carlos had no doubt that this was about Athena, Aphrodite, and Artemis. Someone more close-minded would tell him it was all a bunch of crap, but he knew that it had to be a real prophecy. China was full of ancient, powerful magic. He officially believed that, not a single soul could’ve ever believed that magic didn’t truly exist after that.
Carlos checked a bunch of websites for information about the 3 gods his nooboos were named for. He read about good things and bad things the gods had done.
Could my little girls actually grow up to be this powerful? He thought,
Is this really happening? Either way, Carlos was catching an early flight home. China had been nice, but after witnessing something that shocking it was enough.
A couple hours later, Carlos walked through the doors of his home. Tiffani ran to him, gave him a big hug and a welcome home kiss.
“I’m so glad you’re back, I was so worried you’d get stuck in a tomb or something.”
“I’m fine.” He said, kissing the top of her head as if she was a small child. “How are the girls?”
“They’re finally asleep. It’s funny how much they resemble little devils when they are awake, but once they fall asleep they seem like little angles. Want to see them?”
He nodded and walked up the stairs to the nursery. All three were safely sleeping in their cribs with a little blanket pulled over them and their strange dolls slumped over in the corner.
“Sleep tight little ones.” Carlos whispered as he pulled the door closed. “I don’t know how much longer until it begins.”
Authors Notes:*Yay, the update is finally here!

*That took a long time to write.
*I also used
a lot of commas.

*Do you like the prophecy? It took some time to think of what exactly it should say.
* Sorry for the lack of pictures since sadly, none of this actually happened. Well Carlos did go to China, but it was really buggy and stuff so I had to send him home early.
* Also sorry about my lack of information on the tombs since I don’t really do them often. I’ve never gotten Pangu’s Axe so I don’t even know if Carlos could’ve camped out near the entrance.

*Please let me know about any spelling or grammar mistakes.
*Thank you for all the kind comments!
* Tell me what you think! Please?
