There's just something about the IF clothes that I like so much.  I don't know what it is.  I have to say I really like Drei even if she is a scaredy cat when it comes to the Perigree.

Even if the imaginary friend had been a boy Drei would not have been able to marry him as heirs have to marry a townie that lives outside the home plus nobody who has lived with the heir can move with them or live with them once they move.

Great update Marrian I love that Drei looks so anglelic but is so not.

Chapter Six

It was Saturday at the Langerak household, and Alfredo was playing video games. He had finished the requirements for his lifetime wish of Illustrious Author, and Deuce was no longer insisting that he spend all his time painting. When he’d asked her why this was so important, she’d said that she wanted him to have as many happiness points as possible and he had a lot of time to make up. Alfredo was touched that she should be so concerned about his happiness.

Patterns was overwhelmed by how wonderful life was as a person. The first thing she did was to get a dress in her favorite color, yellow.

She played with blocks for a while in her new nightgown, which was also yellow. While she played, she listened to a tabcast about photography.

Deuce pulled her aside for a little tutoring…

…but when Drei summoned her to play in the royal treehouse, Patterns was ready to oblige.

They had a feast, and then Drei gave a speech to her adoring subjects.

One of the subjects was the paparazzi who kept hanging around. It’s not really evil to dump water on the paparazzi, is it? Especially one who’s dressed like a pirate? Drei didn't think so.

After playing at royalty, Patterns took a few minutes to become better acquainted with Mr. Pickles. A dedicated cat person, Patterns was of the opinion that there should also be a Mrs. Pickles so they could have a litter of gherkins.

In the evening, Deuce had a show at the Hoi Polloi.

The whole family came to watch, although Alfredo was the only one who paid attention. Drei spent most of the show becoming acquainted with Lily January, a vampire who was the same age as her great-grandparents. Patterns got to know a good-looking teen, Jasper Langerak. Given his notion of formal dress, it's possible that Jasper inherited his grandfather's insanity.

After the show, Deuce felt a spasm in her back. All of a sudden her clothes felt loose and baggy except in the places where they were too tight.

She decided to call her agent and retire. “I’m hanging it up, Ralph,” she said. “The old back just doesn’t want to bend any more…I know I’m making good money, but I’m getting too old…I know age is just a state of mind, but believe me, I’ve twirled my last fire baton.”

After the conversation, she went to the dresser to get something a little warmer. Deuce decided to change her hair, too.

This made me bark out in laughter and I scared the dog.  Maybe Dill and Sweet will make an appearance hmm?

I hope Deuce can enjoy her elderhood without all that painful bending going on. Because I spend a lot of my time watching kids television the first names that spring to mind when I hear the name Pickles is Tommy and Angelica from the rugrats.

Chapter Seven

Dear Watcher,

I haven’t heard from you in a while, so I thought I’d write. The first thing I want to know is what kind of deity encourages a little girl to play with a chemistry set that might blow up?

And you call me evil. Anyway, I’m a teenager now. I had my birthday a few days ago.

I kind of like the Marie Antoinette hairstyle, but Mom said I should change to something more suitable. I might use it when I become the Empress of Evil, however. Speaking of which, did you realize I was going to have to learn all the chemistry potions, find 20 new stars, tutor the entire population of Lunar Lakes, and become chess champion of the moon? Watcher, you’ve got some serious ‘splainin’ to do.

This is what Mom considers more suitable, although she thinks the skirt should be longer.

Patterns became a teen at the same time I did. We had an awesome party, verging on epic.

She decided to keep her doll dress.

Something funny happened the other day. Dad started hollering, saying we had an alien in the yard, and we should come and see it.

The alien turned out to be the cats’ new hygienator, which is supposed to prevent them from getting fleas.

That’s right, I said cats, plural. Dad brought home Mrs. Pickles from the shelter. She and Mr. Pickles seem to be getting along well.

Real well.

Mom went to a party the other night at the house my grandmother grew up in. Mom said the new people haven’t changed anything. She also said there was a vampire there, Irene Su, who used to date her Uncle Boris, until she became a vampire. Mom warned me, for like the 25,000th time, to stay away from vampires. She says the ban comes from you, Watcher.

I went to a party myself the other night – the Prom. I don’t know why people make such a big deal about it. The lights were pretty and all, but I didn’t have a very good time.  Someone else wore the same dress I did, and she danced with Tyron (who I think is kind of cute) all night. Maybe he thought she was me? Nah, if he’s that stupid, I don’t want anything to do with him. I was named Prom Queen, but that was the high point of the evening.

Patterns had a great time, even though she didn’t get changed into her formal. My cousin Jasper went with her and asked her to go steady. Everyone agreed they were the cutest couple, blah, blah, blah. I would probably hate Patterns forever, except that she and Jasper have to put their romance on hold because he’s an adult now. Also, he’s insane.

That’s all for now, Watcher. Bye.

Happy birthday Drei and Patches. I think Drei is right it is dangerous letting a child play with the chemistry set.

Chapter Eight

Dear Watcher,

A few days ago, Dad was watching TV, when all of a sudden he got up and kept going up.

We didn’t know what was happening until the Grim Reaper appeared. Dad wasn’t ready to go even though he was 100, but the Grim Reaper took him anyway.

Mom’s been sad and depressed ever since. Usually I don’t mind seeing people suffer, but this has been getting to me. The kittens haven’t cheered her up at all.

That’s Mr. Pickles talking to Sweet…

…and Mrs. Pickles washing Dill. Or maybe it’s the other way round. (Thanks, Ricalynn, for the names.) Right now, the only way we can tell them apart is by their ears.

Patterns and I sent her over to watch the singer Chantal – we don’t often get good performers here on the moon, but she was top-notch. Mom said she enjoyed listening to her, but she didn’t sound very cheerful.

And then she said something that started me thinking – that Chantal should enjoy her time in the limelight because it wouldn’t last. I realized Mom wasn’t just grieving for Dad, she also missed being an acrobat. So I decided to put off becoming chess champion for a bit (an easy decision because my next opponent seems to be at work all the time) and devote myself to finding something that would help Mom.  After a few days, I concocted something and gave it to her to try.

Luckily it worked, and she signed up as an acrobat again. But I think what cheered her up the most was Dad coming back as a ghost. I’m afraid I interrupted them in the middle of something last night when I slipped into their bathroom to use the shower.

Anyway, lest you think I’m becoming a good person or something, I’ll tell you the real reason I wanted to help Mom was so she would get off my case about the time I skipped school (I was only 15 minutes late) and help me learn how to drive. I still really enjoy donating money to undermine the Pools Without Ladders Foundation.

Chapter Nine

Dear Watcher,

There’s been a few birthdays here since I last wrote to you. First there was Dill…

…followed by Sweet.

Then Mom decided to stick with the original meaning of birthday.

My little sister Elise had her very first birthday soon afterwards.

Patterns had her birthday…

…shortly after mine.

Watcher, I’m very flattered that you decided to take a picture of me in my formal gown.

I’m even more flattered that you decided to save a copy of me to the bin, although I’m not sure what that means; it sounds rather agricultural.

Patterns and I soon graduated from school. She was named valedictorian, which she totally deserved. I missed a little too much school fussing around with my chemistry lab. I'm actually quite pleased that I was named most likely to take over the world.

Elise got her first ride in a limo, although she probably won’t remember it.

I am a little envious that Patterns can have a relationship. She met Jasper at one of the parks.

She proposed marriage to him, even though they can’t live together because he was once part of Mom’s household when he was a toddler.

Jasper has some interesting outfits – these might be his pajamas.

Our house is so big and sprawling that Patterns was afraid she could never get him upstairs for some "private time." I suggested she invite him up to play on a 2-man arcade.

Once he was in her room, the rest was up to her.

I think Elise (who is part ghost) might be getting a playmate who is part imaginary friend.

Chapter Ten

Dear Watcher,

After graduating, I applied for a job in the criminal career. The interviewer was quite impressed with my resume, especially when I told him that I was capable of making every potion.

He asked me what my long-term goal was, and I answered “to become Empress of Evil.” He smirked at that and said I would have to stand in line. I guess everyone says that; “better to reign in Hell, than to serve in Heaven,” as Milton says. Then he asked what was the most evil thing I had done lately. I said I had donated some money to undermine Kleptomaniacs Anonymous. He did not look impressed. I got the job, but at the lowest level.

So I went home and picked up Baby Elise.

It really is pretty easy to steal candy from a baby, except that they cry. I called up the interviewer and said he could add that to my application. I’m still at the lowest level though.

I did not tell him that I gave Elise a snuggle when I put her back in her swing.

As soon as I put her down, Mom said she wanted to talk to me. Uh-oh, I thought, and then I remembered I couldn’t be grounded anymore. As it turned out, she wasn’t mad at me. She said there was a shuttle going to Simearth, and we had enough vacation time for me to get a ticket. The only drawback was that it was landing in China. Did I want to go? Did I!

But before she handed over the ticket, she reminded me of the rules.

1.   I was not to get romantically involved with anyone while I was there because I couldn’t get married and I’d end up with a bad reputation.

2.   I was not to explore any tombs because some future heir might want to collect relics.

3.   I was to spend my time working on logic challenges and making friends.

I actually had a pretty good time. I enjoy playing chess, especially when I win.

And I enjoy it even more when I’m beating the best player in China and keeping him from getting some sleep. Thanks to Ai Pei, I am now a Chess Legend! Hooray for me!

After I finished the chess challenge, I started working on tutoring people. One thing I learned was that Chinese children don’t go to school, which seems very unfair, as it means they can't be tutored. Anyway, I figured out a simple approach. I’d tell the person that I would keep explaining the rules of baseball, and why they were perfectly logical, until he or she would agree to be my best friend.

This approach was particularly effective when the person I was talking to was hungry. Apparently, the people of China don’t get much to eat.

So now all I have to do is tutor Elise and the baby that Patterns is going to have. Oh, and discover a few more stars.

Drei has been a busy young lady and I am sure that when she becomes the empress of Evil that the interviewer who scorned her ambition will pay.
