Unless you have a really good architectural solution for that I have no clue than separate the kitchen from the living room (or dining room). It's either that, or being overfed. :P

I guess a half-wall or fence, with a gate, might help a bit, but I agree it still kills the 'open plan'.

Still, at least our butler has progressed from cooking endless waffles to burgers and stu-surprise.   ;D

Wait a sec, ... that must be possible. Are we allowed to lock gates also? I thought we could. Let's hope for it, as I am not hoping that I have to put that golden gate from Late Night between my kitchen and living room.
Hmmm, on second thought... I maybe could. I mean, it would look impressive as if my sims are living on the Olympix.

Anyway, I really was hoping to find a way to actually 'choose' a butler from one of the sims in your neightbourhood as I than will find a way to make one (an 'improved' one) myself.
If anyone knows a way for this, please tell me. I will try this out in depth and post it here. Of course you will get credit. ;)

I do not think that you can select the butler. He/she is just like the maids. Yes, Leto, you can lock gates, that is how I stop my Dynasty famliy from constantly playing with the sprinklers in the garden.

Has anyone not been able to get their butler to sleep. I assigned him a bed, but he never uses it. This is really annoying because he is always fainting randomly.  :(

Nop. I've noticed he likes to stay up and sleep on the ground eventually. Eventhough I provided his room with a really, REALLY good bed. Maybe he just don't like to share a room with 6 kids or guests...

I never really had any problem with my butler sleeping in the bed I got for him, he would usually go to sleep around 1am and he was back up again around 9am or until someone was hungry.  Sometimes when I could not find him, I would look in his room and he would be sleeping.  I always thought that was strange. :)

Our only Butler seems to use his bed most of the time, although he can occasionally be found sleeping in a Blessed Sarcophagus of the Kings ... I guess a bit of variety doesn't hurt  ;D

Our biggest problem is that he appears to have very limited cooking skills  All he seems to produce is Key Lime Pie, Burgers and Autumn Salad.  And he's fairly lazy, with beds left unmade and food left out to go off.

He will be fired today, and we'll see what the next one is like.

My butler, Bertram Plunkett, always slept in his own bed until my actor got the movie star trailer.  I finally had to move the trailer into the family inventory, because our Bertie was in it sleeping more than he was working.

(Hee hee, I finally get to complain about the hired help!  How I wish I had this problem in real life ;D)

The butler for my TS3 family is Ashley Schubert and he sucks majorly. I fired him and attempted to hire a new one, but old Ashley came back. UGH! Does anyone know how to get a new butler?

I guess Ashley's agency never heard of references.

Unfortunately, I was under the impression that what you did was how you got a new butler.

This was a bit of a joke, meaning that anyone who hired a butler would undoubtedly ask for references.  As this particular sim already worked for your sims and was fired because they were a lousy butler, it's doubtful that you'd give them a good reference.  ;)

Unfortunately, I was under the impression that what you did was how you got a new butler.

My impression was that, to get a new butler, you had to fire the one working for you and hire another one.
