Teens parents are grayed out

What does it mean when a teen's parent is grayed out? Is there a way to fix it?

Sorry, I don't know. The only time I've had that problem is when they went off on the free vacation.

Have you tried reset or moving the family out and then back in?

Have the parents gone on tour with Simport that makes a Sim greyed out.

I have tried moving, reseting all the sims. Nothing seems to work.

Are you a person who uses mods?  The reason I mention this is because I believe one of twallan's mods can fix this issue.  I'm also trying to find other possible solutions through google if you are opposed to mods.

I found a fix to the parents not leaving for vacation. I moved the family to a new town. It does have a major draw back by deleting all the friends.

You are correct, [MasterController]'s "Reset" functionality can usually recover sims like that. :)

This issue happened to me because I accidentally sent one of them on tour, or the mom had her baby at that time, I can't fully remember. The parents never left for vacation but there pictures became greyed out.  The parents were playable like normal but you are unable to click on them from the relationships tab.  This is annoying because I had my teen>turned young adult move out and they would like to call home every once and awhile, but they are greyed out.  Is there any other way to fix this other than starting the family in a new game? I have never used mods, and if that will work I am interested in more details.
