Building skycrapers and block of flats
« on: June 09, 2010, 06:05:48 PM »
I have tried to build an workable skyscraper in The Sims 3 but the ways to get around the I-can't-build-higher-than-four-floors really bugged me. Either you could build four walls around a flat mountain, four walls high, and than build another four walls, four walls high on the mountain itself, so it looks like you got yourself a building eight floors high.

Working with the foundation and enablefloorelevation false doesn't provide me with working floors either.

Those workflows do provide you with nice looking skycrapers, but those can only be used as decoration in your town.
And well, I am making a Sims City (although my CAW wouldn't allow me to get further with the world I can still make buildings ingame), so I want my skycrapers having a more useful function than just that.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

If all you want is height, go for a split level approach. Use the 'constrainfloorelevation false' cheat to allow this plan to work.

Here is a diagram of what I am recommending:
FFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFF
SSSS     UUUU
SSSS     UUUU
SSSS     UUUU
SSSS     UUUU
FFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFF

F = Floor
S = Stairs on the same 'floor'
U = Stairs to the next 'floor'

Each letter being a tile, of course, 12 x 12 building in that layout
For the 4 tile rows on the top side, you are raising them a full floor higher than they should be through whichever method you can make work for you properly, thus also allowing a staircase from them to sit an even 4 tiles down to the original height. When its done, the building should look something like this:
     Normal                           This Method

                                        4444444444444

                                                      3333

                                        3333

444444444444                                   2222

333333333333                     2222

222222222222                                   1111

111111111111                     1111

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

G being the ground, and the numbers being what floor above the ground the tile is actually from.

This design by itself precludes rooms due to space constraints, but the design can be enlarged or otherwise modified to achieve usable spaces on each 'floor'.

Yes, impressive it is twrdrockfan.
But I don't understand anything about it. I am more the visual person. I have to see things to understand it or I must have been through the same process already to be able to visualize this in my mind.
Do you have any pics about this process, or a link to a youtube movie that I've must have overlooked? Language doesn't matter really, I have seen, most of the tutorials works the same, when they included pictures or movies to show.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, of course! :D

What if you elevate a mountain, flatten it somewhat leaving enough height to allow the standard floors, then build down?  Not sure how you would remove the mountain you built under to show the floors you "basement" built though.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!
