Sim won't take part in simfest

I know a lot of other players have had this problem. She asks the proprietor to take part, he says she's up next. But when she goes on stage she just stands there, and then the top left icon switches to 'watch show' and she walks off. Then she's disqualified.

I've tried this at all levels of her career. I also tried to do a duel with a fellow singer, he agreed, but I couldn't get her to perform.

Does anyone have an answer to this? I would really like to get another sim into the acrobat career and participating in simfest.
