Purple rim around the bottom of some Buy Mode Paintings

With some of the new SN paintings, there is a sort of purple rim around the bottom of the icon in Buy Mode. What is this for? I suspect it will spawn Tragic Clown, or something to that effect, since the item descriptions hint at it -- they say things like "Though some have said this painting shows her dark side...".

They get a lot creepier.  The one of a man turns into a skull with his mustache.  The one of a pretty fairy elf turns into a creepy old lady.  The good witch becomes an evil witch.   Ghosts appear in some paintings, the night's sky will go stormy in others.  It's actually kind of awesome.
