Question about Imaginary Friends
« on: May 30, 2013, 03:34:19 PM »
Does the IF have to be out of the inventory to age up with the child. Just wondering as I have not had any age up. Do they age up when toddler turns to child. Or just when child turns to teen. Even after constantly playing with it, it hasn't aged up. Therefore does it have to be out of the child/toddlers inventory. Thank you!!

Yes, it does. Unless you take the doll out of the inventory, it's just a normal toy.

Oh ok. I just got the message saying to take it out and saw it age up. But it aged up the day after the toddler became a child. Thank you!

Also, do you have to have a bed/ room for it, or does it not have sleeping, ect., needs ?

It does not have any needs (unless you make it into a real sim).

If you've just taken it out of your inventory, it doesn't seem to have bladder, hygiene, or energy needs. I have seen an imaginary friend eat - they eat donuts and rainbow cookies. When the sim it belongs to goes to bed, the imaginary friend will run to the foot of the sim's bed and turn back into a doll - it will "come alive" again when the sim wakes up if you don't put it back in inventory.

If you turn it "real", it joins your household and is just like a regular sim in most ways.

I have similar question instead creating one, I'll ask here instead.

So, all of my Sims in my own genetic challenge has their own IF dolls but I never let my Sims interact with them and that was so sad to see them never grow up with their owner. Is there any way to give them chance to be alive? (i.e: giving them to another toddler to play with?)

I had one that aged up and always sat at the bottom of the bunk bed ladder when his sim slept. Made it impossible for the sim to get out of bed!

I don't think it's possible, Eld.  I let a toddler play with someone else's doll and nothing ever happened with it.  It will only age with Sim it belongs to.

Thank you for the answer, Pam. I’m glad that I don’t have to wonder about that anymore ;D

I think you have to have a pop up that says the Imaginary Friend wants to come out and play first.

This only happens when the doll is in the right Sim's inventory.

I have another question about IF's. Logistically speaking as far as the town population goes, is it better to let the IF grow up w/the sim and turn it into a real sim and then get the two married or just leave it a doll? Does the game compensate by taking some sims out of the population by "moving" them out when you turn an IF into a real sim?

I don't think the town does anything differently when an imagine friend becomes real. It's part of your household and has no bearing on the rest of the town. Story Progression takes care of moving new Sims into town and that shouldn't change because of the invisible friend.

Thanks Pam! I was kind of worried about the possibility of overcrowding the town by not choosing an existing sim. I suppose it's kind of like creating a new sim in CAS except that they are part of your household.
