Is there a way to make NPC a playable character?
« on: June 06, 2013, 05:28:45 PM »
Hi,

I have a teen sim who is my daughter that I aged up to NPC with the cheat.  She is living in my household but never seems to go out much and do things, comes right home after school, does homework and goes to sleep.  She seems to have no friends, she went to one dance at the school.  I changed her one trait from hates the outdoors to loves the outdoors but just wondering if theres any way I change her from a NPC to a playable character?

Thanks :)

Have you tried "testingcheatenabled true" and clicked on her, and see if there is any "add to household"? :)

Yes, I just went into my game and turned the cheats on and then shift clicked my teen sim but the only options that came up were edit in create a sim, favorite music, object and trigger age transition.

How is she in your household without you being able to control her?  If she's your Sim's daughter and a member of the household, her face should show up along the left side of your screen for you to click.

Also, NPCs are the utility Sims.  For instance, the mail carrier, maids, pizza deliverers, repairperson, etc.

I've done this once, too. Aged up to an NPC, except mine was my sim's eldest son, who had the Evil and Mean traits, so he was a nightmare as an NPC!

If I recall correctly, I never figured out a way to make him playable, so I sent his little behind packing and shipped him to boarding school.

Hope someone knows a fix for this. It's just so tempting...

I still don't understand what y'all mean by "aging up to an NPC".  This is a Sim in your household?  What exactly is happening?  Does this Sim show up on the left side of the screen with the other family members?

There is a (fairly useless) cheat, called "AgeUpToNpc" (if I recall correctly, you need to add "true" or "on" to the end). It does what it says on the tin, a toddler aging up to a child receives the option to become an NPC. The Sim lives with you, but is uncontrollable. Think about it like a Butler, except this cheat has been around since the base game.

Hi all,

Yes, I did use the cheat AgeuptoNPC when she was a toddler but she is such a good teen that now I want to make her playable if I can.  She is a member of the household and her portrait is showing up on the left side.  I thought NPC's left the house occasionally.  Other than her going to school she doesn't go out except like walk right outside the door and come back in, its strange.  I even changed her "hates the outdoors" trait to "loves the outdoors" and when she was a child I tried sending her to 2 different boarding schools but I got messages that she wanted to come back home.  So the only thing I can think of to do which might work would be to move her to another household and then back into mine.  Has anyone tried something like that?

Thanks :)

That is strange.  I have moved quite a few NPC's into the household with the testingcheats enabled and have had no problem.  I have not done it in a while, so maybe it has something to do with one of the patches.  I added quite a few maids that I liked to the household that way. :)
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

Yes, I also did that with a maid in another game awhile back.  But this is a sim that is my daughter that always lived with me, maybe thats why.

I'll try to move her out and back in and see what happens.

Thanks all :) have fun

And yes, their portrait does show up on the left, but it is greyed out and unselectable.

Well, that didn't work.  I moved her out to another household and then back in, I still can't control her.  I even invited her out to the park and started the friendly interactions to see if I can ask her to be roommate or ask to move in.  Oh well, its not that important.  Eventually I'll figure it out or maybe it just can't be done.

Thanks again. :)

Try moving her to another household then upload her to the bin, then evict her from the game, then add her again from the bin. I remember uploading retains inventory and family tree information so she will still be a part of the family.

Thank you, Seabody!  I didn't know about that cheat.  Now it all makes sense.
