Self-employment

Does one have to have ambitions to register as self employed? If so, I sure can't see buying an EP for that one feature. Is there maybe a mod for that?

I believe that self-employment was added in the patch that accompanied Ambitions, meaning you don't actually need the expansion to be self-employed. As long as your patches are up-to-date, you should be good.

Just make sure you already have a skillpoint in your career of choice before you go to City Hall to register as self-employed. Otherwise, the option won't show up.

Twallan has a module for his Careers mod that gives more self-employment options. It won't unlock those that came with Ambitions, but it gives options to be self-employed in fields that Ambitions didn't provide self-employment for. I have no idea if this will work without Ambitions or not, but it's the closest thing I could find. :-\

Not to muddy the waters here, but I thought self-employment careers came in a patch, too.  Can anyone offer more confirmation either way?
