Biography:
Lisa del Giocondo, also known as Lisa Gherardini, Lisa di Antonio Maria Gherardini and Mona Lisa, was a member of the Gherardini family of Florence and Tuscany in Italy. Little is known about Lisa's life. Born in Florence and married in her teens to a cloth and silk merchant Francesco del Giocondo who later became a local official, she was mother to five children and led what is thought to have been a comfortable and ordinary middle-class life. Lisa outlived her husband, who was considerably her senior.

Lisa del Giocondo was born in Florence on June 15th 1479. She worked as a model. She died in Florence in July 15th 1542 aged 63 years and 1 month old.

The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait of a woman by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, which has been acclaimed as "the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world."
