The Diary of the Greek: Entry Nineteen

Day 45,
My, has Apollo grown, and myself as well. I’ve already had my birthday, but this weekend we’ll celebrate together. He’ll be a teenager, if you, whoever you are that is reading this journal, can believe it. I don’t suppose I have much to update about.

I was commissioned by the officials at City Hall to donate three of my novels to the newly opened library. I have my first two novels written out and delivered in the mail. I’ve started a series of books called the Greek Lover (which I will explain later) that I wish not to donate currently, as I’ve not finished the series.

I guess you could say, I’ve been growing fond of a woman named… well… what’s in a name?

Okay, I don’t know her name. I only know her screen name: BeautyandMe83

We talked for hours and became fast friends. She also mentioned that scientist whom I had just about forgotten. She said he had given her a potion that would never make her age, however, she didn’t want to drink it. She wouldn’t tell me why, but I’ve considered buying it off of her.

Back to my novels, I guess you could say that I’ve been documenting most of my love life in these books. I guess it’s a way for me to vent one way or another. I take all of the emotions I’ve felt in my past relationships and develop a character from them. My first book is titled, “The Greek Lover: Elizabeth”

My high school sweetheart… (she was insane.)

Day 46,
I guess I haven’t really explained why I want this potion so badly. I understand that I’ll have to see my children, my grandchildren, my great grandchildren… my family’s lineage die, but to live the life I’ve wanted, and to keep my family pure; this potion is something I need.

I guess it’s a bit selfish of me to want it. I guess deep down I want to prove I’m a better parent than anyone I’ve known and to do that, I want to be around for my children for as long as possible.

Apollo is finally a teenager and he’s taken mostly after his father. He’s already excited to graduate, even though it won’t be for a while down the road.

Day 50,
I finally donated my 3rd book for City Hall, “A Time to Fuse Hearts.” Now I can finish my “The Greek Lover” series. I’m currently writing Book III: Diana. Book II: Theresa was a hit and is earning me around $2,500 in royalty checks.

Apollo got in trouble this morning for not going to school. He thought I wouldn’t notice him sitting in his room while the bus drove away, but I most certainly did. I almost didn’t let him go to the prom, but I couldn’t deny him that. It only happens one in a lifetime.

I sure hope he had fun.

Day 55,
We celebrated Apollo’s birthday. He was on the honor roll throughout school and is ecstatic to seek his dream job as a professional athlete. I’m sure he’ll make it; he’s taken after his father in regards to his athleticism.

I called his father to tell him he would be graduating in the afternoon and everyone was excited to see him. (I know that makes it sound as if Apollo never talked to them, but he did.)

He graduated at city hall, the first in his class, and I have a feeling that the blonde woman who showed up his quite possibly his high school sweetheart.

Day 57,
Apollo is getting married! I guess the other day he proposed to his girlfriend, whom I have yet to meet. Her name is Heidi and that’s all I know about her so far. He wouldn’t stop talking about the wedding all day, which was lovely.

All of his cousins came and his aunt and uncle as well, his mom and dad, and a few other uninvited guests. It all turned out splendidly, we ate cake, we laughed around the table, and then all went to bed.

Or so I thought...

Day 58,
Apollo is leaving. I’m a bit sad to see him go, but I’m excited for him to start his life with his new bride and possibly have some kids of his own. He grew up a little too quickly for me to enjoy his time living with me, but it was a fun experience. How many times do you get to raise your grandchild anyways?

Okay, it’s time to let you in on a little secret. Once Apollo entered his teen years, I’ve been having the local construction company build me a custom home. It’s a little bungalow a couple of blocks away and about a week ago, they called to tell me it was finished.

Well, last night, I went to go check the house out and see how it looked… and I ran into someone very important. Okay, you’re thinking the scientist, well, no… it wasn’t him.

I ran into my father. He moved to Sunset Valley. At first I was enraged, he was living in the house across from my current residency, and I could have punched him in the nose for showing his face around me. That wasn’t why he was there though…

My mother had died. After my rage settled, and the reality sunk in… I melted. We talked for hours outside of his house about meaningless stuff. I asked him how things were going in Bridgeport and he asked me how my twins were doing. When I told him I was probably going to be a great-grandfather in the near future, he almost fell to the ground.

Well son, I guess you’re doing pretty okay here then.

“It would seem that way, wouldn’t it?”

I guess you wouldn’t accept an apology from an old man in his dying years. You’ve done so well for yourself, I mean.

“An apology for what? Kicking me out of the house? Practically out of town? Maybe for disowning me and your grandsons, your own family?”

No… if I hadn’t done those things, do you really think you could have created the life they have now, under a cushy life in a big city? No, that’s not why I wanted to apologize. I wanted to apologize for not believing in you.

You were a teenager, after all, barely about to graduate. Your mother and I, we weren’t much younger than you when we had you and your sister, so I’m not really sure why I doubted you so much. I guess I was scared; scared you wouldn’t make it.

So… I’m sorry. Λυπάμαι...

What could I say? He was my old man, my friend, my idol… I couldn’t just leave him there, vulnerable from revealing his inner-most self. I hugged him, harder than I could remember hugging a person.

Day 59,
I finally moved into my new house. It’s so empty though… and quiet… I’m not sure how I feel about it.

Ah… ha, I forgot to mention the very important thing that happened this morning. I met the scientist, who actually smiled when he met me, he didn’t say a single word, but pushed a beaker in my direction. It bubbled with a light pink liquid and sparkled with small gold flakes inside.

You’ve finally done well for yourself.

When I returned home to pack some more, I left the beaker on my nightstand… I stared at it for a very long time… once it went into my body, there would be no going back…

I lifted it… I felt it, smelled it, examined it, hearing it sizzle in the vile… I finally grabbed the neck of the beaker and down it went.

There’s no going back now…

Day 60,
So you remember the woman I had been speaking to? BeautyandMe83, her name is Rachel and she is a no-good, cheating llama. I invited her over today so I could ask her out to a date.

SHE HAS A KID! A child! A toddler!

On top of that, she’s married! I told her to leave an never talk to me again! How could she not have mentioned that when she was flirting with me online? I mean, that's something worth mentioning right? You usually tell people if you know you have a contagious disease, or that you have 11 brothers and sisters, and most of all if you're in a relationship! Right?

I have a title for my fourth book, “The Greek Lover: Rachel the Cheating Llama”

Day 62,
Good news today! Apollo and Heidi had triplets (must run in the family or something.) Robert, Victoria, and Khalid. That’s boy, girl, boy, and they’re adorable!

I’ve started talking to someone new. Her name is Pauline. I don’t know if anything will come out of it, but I do know one thing is for certain. She isn’t married.

Day 65,
I met Pauline again today… she doesn’t really turn heads, but she’s got a funny and very flirty way about her. We watched a couple of movies from the house, ate some dinner, and… shared our first kiss.

I guess I should be looking for “the one.” I mean, I’m not dying any time soon, so why not?

I called my boys to see how they were doing. Theos said the triplets had graduated high school. Spyros said the twins had just started high school and he was a proud grandfather of three, which he visits daily. Everything is looking up.

Day 67,
I did something awful… no, just, terrible.

Pauline and I WooHooed… it was a spur of the moment kind of thing and well, it just… happened.

After she left, I don’t know, but I have a bad feeling in my gut. I guess in a way, I want to have my cake and eat it too, but I don’t want anyone to get hurt like I did. I guess only time will tell if I just made the biggest mistake of my life.

On a separate note, I’ve finished “The Greek Lover” vol. 3.

Day 69,
She’s pregnant! I couldn’t sleep last night. I kept waiting for a phone call from her telling me she was, but it never came. I only found out when I invited her over for dinner today. I couldn’t really let my mistake repeat itself, so, I took her to a diner, and then to the park where I popped the question.

Oh my! Is this really happening?! Are you serious?

“I couldn’t let you raise my child on your own. It takes two to tango after all, and I realize I had a part in this.”

Of course I’ll marry you, then!

Well… that’s that. I get to marry a horse and have another baby.

Day 70,
Why are these things happening?! I think that potion was cursed… ever since I drank it, bad things have been happening to me. Sandi, you know, my daughter-in-law Sandi, she called. She was talking really weird over the phone and when I asked if something was wrong, she asked me out on a date, said she wanted to be with me, not Spyros.

I think it’s all fine and good that a young lady like herself is attracted to me, but… this… this is just wrong.

She came to the wedding. I told Spyros about her and he seemed only slightly disturbed by my story.

To be honest Dad, I’ve been suspecting her of cheating. It started up a little over a week ago; she was staying up through the night chatting on the computer and sometimes lock herself in the bathroom and I could hear her giggling and chatting over the phone with someone.

“I’m so sorry son…”

It’s fine. I’m done with her.

It was a little weird to marry after seeing my son break up with his wife at right before the ceremony, but he was smiling through the exchange of vows and the kiss, so maybe he really was done with her.

So, in a way, I did get to have my cake and eat it too, right?

Day 71,
It’s a girl! My very first little darling girl! Her name is Maria. She’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen. Pauline is very excited to be a mother, she tends to Maria every minute and sleeps only when the baby does.

When Pauline isn’t tending to Maria… she’s on the phone… with whom, she would not say. At night, I’ve seen her get up and could see the glow from my laptop in the hallway. Maybe it’s nothing, but it sounds too similar to how Sandi was treating Spyros…

Day 72,
Why… that cheating… twice I’ve been burned by women in this town. I’m convinced that potion is cursed! I have to find that scientist again before things get worse!

It was early this morning that I heard giggling outside. I had been awake for about an hour and noticed Pauline was not in bed. When I stepped in the living room where our daughter slept, I noticed she wasn’t in the living room at all. She was outside talking to some greasy haired kid, giggling and feeling his biceps.

I was enraged and told her to leave and never come back. As for the mystery man, I kicked the crap out of him for stealing my wife, then ordered him to get off of my property.

Now I’m alone with Maria…
