Making Items Larger and Smaller
« on: September 16, 2014, 08:46:41 AM »
I think I saw somewhere that we can make items larger and smaller.  For instance, I'm building a house and there's an exterior light that I like, but it's too big.  How do we do this larger/smaller business?

1) Go into Build/Buy mode
2) Choose the object you want to modify size, by left clicking on it once
3) On your keyboard, press Ctrl + [     (square bracket on your keyboard, this is to make it smaller)
4) You have to move the object to see the size changes.
5) If you want to make it larger, use Ctrl + ]
6) Same thing, move the object and you will see it gets bigger.

EDIT:  You cannot make them smaller than original size.

Pam,

I really do believe you can't make items smaller than their original size.

Can't resize objects
« Reply #3 on: September 20, 2014, 02:39:50 AM »
Sorry, if this topic has already been addressed, but since the search function seems to cover only the Sims 3 -section of the site I could not find a relevant thread.

So, I know that you are supposed to be able to resize objects by pressing 'Shift + ]'. My problem: I have the object selected and press shift and the ] and nothing happens. On my keyboard I have to press 'AltGr + 9' to get the bracket in question, so I have tried both with and without AltGr to make an object bigger, but nothing.

I live in Scandinavia - is our keyboard somehow different from the US keyboard and this is the reason that the command does not work properly over here?

Sometimes it's a bit tricky scaling up art if that's what you're trying to do.  You have to be 'holding' the art as if you are still deciding where to place it on a wall as you use shift + ]

The Sim Supply have got a good YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=497Zvc7Z0Cg hope that helps.  :)

Thanks, Playalot. I watched the video, but unfortunately it did not help.

But I figured out the problem: my keyboard is indeed different from the US keyboard. Resizing works in my Scandinavian keyboard by pressing 'shift + Å' (that is what we Finns call the Swedish O). The key to you should press while holding down the shift-key is the one to the right of the letter P.

Now I am happy resizing the rocks in my garden. But I still have to figure out how to scale them back down though

Edited to add that I found out how to scale the objects back, too, so here are both commands for Scandinavians:

"Hold an Object" then press Shift +"Å" to make bigger.
"Hold an Object" then press Shift +"\" to scale it back down (the key after the +key above the letter Å).

After pressing the key you may have to move the object a bit to see the size change.

Glad you got it sorted, also really helpful for others to know about the different keys for people who don't use the US keyboard.  :)

I was getting frustrated when I could not resize objects with the above commands. After some experiments I found out that the shift+] works on US keyboards. If you live in other countries you may have different keyboards so the commands to resizing are different.

I live in Scandinavia, so here are the resizing commands for Scandinavian keyboards:

"Hold an Object" then press Shift +"Å" to make bigger.
"Hold an Object" then press Shift +"\" to scale it back down (the key after the +key above the letter Å).

After pressing the key you may have to move the object a bit to see the size change.

Thank you Tipi.  Sorry I forgot to mention it's only for US keyboards.

We already have a topic about this, so I'm merging them.  Thank you Tipi for figuring out the solution to non-US keyboards.

Hey guys i don't have a US keyboard too. Also i am not Scandinavian. Keyboard is different in my country too, so i hope this helps.  :)

Shift + Ğ(¨) = makes objects smaller
Shift + Ü(~) = makes objects bigger

Ü is next to the enter button right above ",".
Ğ is on the left to Ü.
