Sim-made paintings not registering

My sim has an aspiration goal of having 25 paintings.  But when she completes a painting and hangs it on the wall, it is a roulette for whether or not it will register.  Sometimes it does and then later has vanished from the tally.  What gives?

I had that goal and I noticed that they all counted until I went into buy mode, then my tally went to 0. I ended up just using the paintings in Buy mode.
