Adoption
« on: October 19, 2010, 11:29:07 PM »
Has anyone played around with the adoption services? I remember in Sims 2, if a baby/toddler/child was taken by the social workers, that child would turn up for the next sim in the neighbourhood who adopted a child. Does anyone know if it works the same way in Sim 3? And the child would have no memory of past relationships or even their former last name. It would be so cool if you could adopt another sim's baby, but the baby still remembers their first parents.
I'm wondering because I've started playing an entire neighbourhood and it would be really cool if defunctive (is that a word?) parents could lose their kids, and the local good samaritan (I should know how to spell that) raised them instead.

I haven't had much experience with adoptions.  Only a couple in the whole time I've played Sims 3.  And I've never had one taken by social servies.  That's an interesting theory, though.  How could you tell the child belonged to someone else if the child didn't remember his last name?  What about when you adopted infants or toddlers?

In Sims 2 whichever child was last taken by CPS was the first one up for adoption.  I had a neat story of an adopted child I wanted to do, but to make it happen I needed to create it's biological family then get it taken away.  Then in the same neighborhood I would switch family to the adoptive parents I had pre-made and choose to adopt over the phone.  Then the child in question would show up at my doorstep :)

Only time the social worker situation happened to me in Sims 3 was when Sam Sekemoto got neglected when Leighton had triplets. The game moved him to another household in the neighborhood but he was still in the family tree of his old family so all I had to do was to go to edit town mode and bring him back (with an adult that moved out later).

I have had one very tragic end to a game with an Social Services Visit. A Child was celebrating her Birthday with her Mother, my first raised child from baby to nearly Teen and she sets the Cake on fire, the Mother then shortly dies in the inferno and the Daughter grows up in the flames, the Social Services then show up and take away my Teenager!  :'( I have adopted a few Sims in game and I think it is a great thing to do, I like to think that those kids are getting way better lives and will grow up to be successful, I mainly use adoption for Pre-made Sims like Jamie Jolina or 'Thatarmywomanthatisnearlyanoldlady' I forgot her name you see but she oftens ends up with Adopted, I find it almost more satisfying than a Blood child.

Erin Kennedy?

Yeah that's her. I never can imagine her getting married or being in a relationship so I just let her adopt.  :)

I once read a legacy blog where a glitch in the gameplay caused social services to make an appearance. Basically the dad (founding dad) was sat down teaching the kid (can't remember exactly what) and the game glitched causeing the dad and toddler to be stuck where they were. Apparently even resetsims cheat did not work. So obviously the kid got hungry stuck there until eventually social services came. The cool bit was the blog author worked the glitch into her story, saying that the dad got depressed, and started loosing his mind, becoming irrational, etc, until social services came. Fast forward a few sim weeks later, and one of the other kids - a teen - asked if a friend from school could come over, and guess who it was. Yup, the toddler that was taken away from social services, all grown up into a teen.

I had the social worker come for two of the kids.  The infant was in the crib and the mother just stood there.  She was frozen and could not move.  I was watching as the mothers needs went lower and lower.  Finally, the social worker comes and takes the infant and youth.  After the social worker left, the mother started moving again.  It was the strangest thing.  They ended up having another child and after it turned to youth, she brought home the actual youth that was taken, of course no memory of anything.  I forgot to mention it was in sims2.

I have adopted quite a few and really enjoy it.  They have all been great to work with. ;D

Just shows you how family oriented I am.  ;D

When I first started playing Sims I saw the adoption service and I thought "How neat, you can give your kids up for adoption!"

Yes, it was in the Sims 3. The blog author was very good at writing and she incorporated it really well. She wrote about the sadness that happened after the social services took the kid away, and how stunned the parents were when their daughter brought home that very same kid who got taken away. Very touching.

Sam - In my game Erin Kennedy had a boyfriend before she died. She decided to get a boyfriend old, I guess.

Has anyone else had the child taken by socialworker show up at a random neighbours house like it did in my game? I'm starting to wonder if that's really supposed to happen.

I think it is supposed to happen. I think when the social worker takes the child away it goes like into a 'pool' of sims that are then added to the town to continue with the population. And maybe the sims taken away by the social worker have a higher chance of being placed back in the town than other random sims.
