Possible Glitch?

I think I heard that this was a glitch in the Sims 3 a while ago. Sometimes in my game all of my sims in the household's icons while light up like they do when they're the active sim. Other times, I can't click on to a different sim and I'm stuck on the currently active one. This is usually solved by me exiting the game and loading back up again but it keeps happening again after a while, plus it's a pain to have to keep loading the game. Does anybody know any reasoning behind this or possible fixes?

It always seems to happen to me right after I move in a sim who was homeless or a service NPC, or sometimes after adopting  a pet.

Exiting, clearing caches, and reloading is the only fix that I know about, though.

Hmm. I haven't moved any sims or pets in recently. I'll try clearing caches though. Thanks, Trip.
