Looking for a family tree maker!
« on: October 30, 2010, 09:03:01 PM »
Hola!
I would like to know if anyone has run a family and outside of TS3, used a program to create and keep track of their sims's family trees? If so what program are you using? I want to keep it simple, show parents and brothers and such. I would like to be able to also show when children are born out of wedlock. Thanks!

Hi stryder67!  Welcome to the forum if I have not done so before.  I changed the title of your thread to better reflect what you were asking for so that there would not be any confusion.  I must confess I thought at first until I opened the message that you were asking for 3rd party content, which I saw when I read your post that you were not.  I am of no help for you in this endeavor but wish you the best of luck finding what you are looking for.

I was looking for one a while ago, and eventually gave up and made one in Excel.

I would strongly caution you NOT to use the family tree software from MyHeritage. During installation it set itself as my homepage and default search engine, WITHOUT asking if that was okay. It also blew out my NoScript settings in Firefox (which sites are allowed/not allowed to run java script) and undid some of my firewall settings. You may feel different, but I'm very much NOT OKAY with software changing settings in other software without asking first.
Please don't go. The Drones need you. They look up to you.

I use GeneWeb, available here: http://pauillac.inria.fr/~ddr/GeneWeb/en/ - it's freeware, and not the most user-friendly thing to jump straight into using, but when you've got your head round its little quirks it's very flexible.

I thought I was the only one keeping track of my Sims with family tree software! I have ten generations of Valentines in there.  :)

I also used Ancestry.com in the past. You need an account, but it can be stored online and it has a small learning curve.

I use Family Echo. It's free and does the job pretty well.

Family Echo is what I used to make the Dreamweaver Immortal Dynasty family tree.  And in a matter of less than 10 minutes, I made one for my Dreamweaver Townie DecaDynasty

I use Family Echo, as well.  It is easy to use and it takes very little time to set up a family tree, add pictures, etc.  And, you can have multiple trees under the same username, which is really convenient.

I have even found a more basic and easier family tree maker to use.
http://www.familyecho.com/
it is a lot easier and it is free.
I hope it helps.

Welcome to our Forum, S126716!

I just want to point out that the three posts before yours give the very same information.  If the information has already been provided, we don't need to have it repeated so much.  :)
