Send Your Sims Hiking - Mountains

Has anybody tried making a mountain for sims to go "hiking" on? I have, but I had to flatten some parts and add stairs. I couldn't figure out how to make a routable stair-less mountain, but its too hard. Any thoughts on how to make it better?
