New Year's Resolution
« on: December 18, 2015, 06:29:11 AM »
New Year's Resolution

Goal
First there was the leftover candy from Spooky Day, then 5 holiday parties culminating in the New Year's Eve party of the century. The result? Your Sim is going to have a hard time achieving that goal of becoming a Star Athlete and Bodybuilder.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create one Young Adult with maximum weight and minimum muscle. Traits = Lazy, Glutton, and Gloomy.
  • No adding to the household.
  • No moving.
  • No changing aspirations until you've completed Bodybuilder.
  • You are allowed to add one Maxis-made spa venue to Willow Creek, Oasis Spring, Magnolia Promenade, or Newcrest.  Choose between these four: Perfect Balance Spa, Center of Center Massage, Aham Ashram Yoga Studio, or Luxe Health Club.  Choose wisely which spa venue you want to add, no changing after you start your game.
  • The insta-lean potion, slimify serum and diet ice cream are banned.
  • This challenge ends when your Sim has completed the Bodybuilder Aspiration and maxed one of the athletic careers.

Scoring

Scoring is the total minutes it takes to complete your task of capping an athletic career and completing the Bodybuilder Aspiration. When you have done both, pause your game and write down the day and time, including AM or PM. Also, open your Simology tab and note your days to age up and your current Life Stage  - i.e. Young Adult or Adult.  Post your information and we will manually calculate the total minutes for you.

Minutes — Total minutes needed to cap an athletic career and finish the Bodybuilder Aspiration.

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, LenaLJ, Trip, and MarianT) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

I have been wondering why the challenge team allows the plumbob lamps since not all players have access to them. It seems like they give a fairly significant advantage since the player who has them does not have to do any work to get Sims very inspired, focused, etc.

Well, if enough players speak up and feel an additional ban to the lamps is in order, then we can certainly make that ruling for 2016. Buying all those lamps at the beginning of a file to set yourself back financially is not something everyone wants to do. And it's debatable how much of an advantage being in a "Very" state vs the regular state of an emotion really is - especially if the goals of a challenge are not really tied to emotions.

Thanks for the reply. You were quite fast! I removed the post and was going to send a PM instead because I figured I might be treading on "strategy" a little too closely! ;)

You must have been replying exactly when I was deleting.

And for clarification: Reward traits are allowed, just no potions?

It seems that you cannot pick traits Glutton and Foodie for the same sim. My game says these traits conflict.

Sorry -- changed Foodie to Gloomy.

More of a general question for challenges but: Can I just confirm (never played a challenge before), it says start from scratch regarding a sim with challenges.

Say I make a sim (completely new from scratch) for a test file, finish the test file and do not save the sim - except from when it is originally created in the library. Am I still not allowed to use the same sim for the actual challenge?

I think I might give this one a go and wouldn't want to accidentally disqualify myself!

You have to start from scratch for the actual challenge. Glad you're going to try the challenge!

Thanks for confirming MarianT. I assumed as such but thought best to clarify.

I still have a lot to learn from the game I think and I think doing a challenge might motivate me to strategise a bit more. Plus I'd just like to participate  :)

Helps this seems pretty easy. By that I mean there is not a lot things to remember!

All club content in GT is banned in the General Rules for 2016.

I'm not talking about the club content; I know that is banned.  I'm talking about the expansion itself, similar to how OR, GTW, and Spa Day were banned in some of the 2015 challenges because they were too new.

As far as I know the team did not feel other GT content would give unfair advantages, so you're fine.

Two questions :

1.  Can we mess around with the body shape - as long as we've maxed the weight and minimised muscle?

2.  Can we use hair and outfits from GT?

Thank you

I'm not on the Team but I can't see what harm the clothes and hair would do. As for the body shape? Well, it wouldn't be fair not to let us since RL fat people come in all shapes lol

So far on my practise run it seems a bit easy compared to other challenges I've tried.  Might you consider an extra dimension, maybe additional challenge of making new friends, learning a new skill or something?

It's not even too hard to get the fat, lazy sim to workout once they have the fitness skill they seem happy to jump on the treadmill at every opportunity.

Also, with the GT pack people keep texting to ask my Sim to go party ;is this ok as long as it's not a "club"activity?

Thanks :)

Oh, anyone can eventually get the fat sim to max fitness and the career, quite, but the strategy comes in doing it efficiently.
Various Forum Adventures:

The Dynasty of Original Townies Dynasty
Vlad's Nose story
Sims Eugenics II - the big chateau one
Vacuous Green house (I totes like this one)
Island Living Beachfront Mansion

It is a little thing of my own. I call it "Heart Foam". I shall not publish it. Farewell! Patience, Patience, farewell!

Tracey, I think a simple challenge is a good idea for players like me who have not tried a challenge before. It's an encouragement to get new players to participate (I assume anyway).

I think it's great it's simple so people can focus on just trying to use the best strategy and not have to worry about getting bogged down with additional variables etc.

There is the longer challenge as well as this one.

I'm a first-timer who discovered these challenges mid-year last year and have been dabbling unofficially with a few of them ever since. This year I'm really excited about officially participating. This challenge look really fun and simple enough for a newbie to test the waters. Thank you to the team for your hard work putting these together.
