Gigs?

How far into the band career have people played? I am interesting in the locations of the gigs and payment. I have only briefly tested gigs. Does gig location and payment matter on celebrity status? Or is it like a "hidden" skill and progresses as you go along.

I've only heard of gigs being done at Waylon's Haunt.  It's got the band stage all set up.  I've also heard that playing in subways increases your band's visibility and increases your chances of getting a gig, but it's not confirmed.

I have been having some trouble with mine lately.  The band gets a gig at a certain time, the message comes up reminding me of the gig, but when I send my sims to play, there is no interaction for that gig.  I have done quite a number of them and then all of a sudden, I can't do them.  Then later the message comes up about missing the chance to play.

The first few times they get paid, is not very much, but I guess the more they play, the higher the payment.  I have not gotten a chance for my celebrities to play a gig yet, so not quite sure if they get paid more.  I would think payment would have something to do with how many skill points they have in the instrument they are playing. :)

I've played gigs at Eugi's, Sportszone, Weylons, and Aquarious so far.  None of them have provided me with any serious amount of money, maybe 4K at most so far, it's entertaining, but playing for tips in a busy area is way faster money.

I've researched this quite a bit, and as far as I can tell, gigs are just a random Skill opportunity (so the chance of getting them is the same as any other Skill opportunity).   Which is a shame, I wish they had made it function like the other professions.

When I tried to get a gig it took forever but anyway it doesn't really matter if you jam at a certain place it's all random.

I got up to level 7; but the gigs were few in coming and the bartender is cheap. I found that if you max your band members skills and go to the subway and play ALL day to make a ton of money, you advance faster. Forget playing on the streets where everyone dances and doesn't give serious tips. In order to get things to work, I had all band members living together and registered as self-employed. However, I found the gigs so slow in coming, I didn't go further.

All four were self employed as a band ("Kat's Meow", since the band leader is Kat Mandu after a Bob Seger song). I kept the opportunity spot cleared for each member and still not many gigs. Although once they had 2 gigs the same day, back to back.

In regards to gigs, is it possible to book them through the computer or cellphone?

Hi Puppetmaster,
I don't think you can book gigs yourself. I had my band go to the Hotspots (Eugi's, Bridgeport and Waylon's haunt), then start jamming. Sometimes they would get a gig a few days later.

I apologize for bumping the thread, but I have a question: How do I choose what instruments does each Sim play? I figured out that they play the one that they're the best at, but once they're level 10 in all of them, then what?

It honestly does not matter. I know that doesn't make sense, but I discovered shortly after Late Night was released that the main factor affecting gig pay is how many Sims are in a club. So, you could have a lvl 5 guitarist jump on the keyboard -- doesn't matter. You could have a lvl 10 drummer end up on the drums -- still does not matter as far as what they'll be paid.

Still, I'd rather have my original drummer on drums, not manning the guitar, or my pianist playing the piano, and not the bass, and etc.
