MOD Bug - Is there a way to diagnosis?
« on: December 19, 2016, 01:09:26 PM »
I downloaded a few mods recently, and now I'm having lag in time, and my sim will just stand in place and not do anything for quite awhile, making them late for work. I just was wondering if there was an easier way to see what's causing this, because I've been going through and just removing one mod, and starting the game up to see if that works, then closing it and removing another... it's very time consuming.

Best way is to remove all mods and delete the localthumbcache.package file from The Sims 4 folder. Then go back into your game and make sure everythjing is working well. Next add the mods back in one by one deleting the localthumbcache.package file each time, until you find the mod that is causing the issue.

CC can also cause major lag especially if you have not renamed all the special characters including numbers.

If when you delete all mods and it's still there, then it's your game. But if it isn't try downloading the mod files one at a time until you spot the culprit.

@Playalot Do you mean renaming the files? That could be the issue. I renamed my mods and included special characters. (I put MOD_ in front of them so they are easier to spot in case of an in-game issue)

Yep @adrianna  renaming the files really helps as normally the creators use quite a few special characters including underscores and numbers. Using mods and CC really do cause issues and they require maintenance.

I got caught out recently with a T-Shirt CC that was semi-transparent. Major weird things were going on in my game and I couldn't for the life of me figure it out until I noticed a townie walking around with no shirt on. I went through my cc and realized that the recent-ish update to shaders (Backyard Stuff) had broken the semi-transparent CC I had. The only way to fix it was to delete the CC and repair my game etc etc.

Usually the issues broken/out dated CC or mods cause have no direct relation to the issue. By that I mean the cc T-shirt was causing teleporting sims, T-jump resetting, flying llama icons in the action queue, actions being dropped and so on... no bugs that were actually 'clothing related' as such. But those kinds of glitches usually point to cc/mod problems.  :)

So just to be clear, even numbers are a no-no in file names?

Umm..well if you have that many bits of cc... You do know that all cc and mods will slow down your game etc? Obviously renaming will help but that is a lot of CC.

Yeah, that's what I miss most about sims 3, I didn't have to have as many objects downloaded just patterns... I use to spend hours and hours just on decorating.. I'd play for an hour and I'd re-do the whole house.

Agree, I still play TS3 and really enjoy matching and mixing patterns and so on etc. Love the customization and the ability to build grungy old shacks through to gleaming mansions. I have resisted the urge to load up TS4 with CC furnishings as I know that quite simply I would end up with so much that my rig would struggle to play the game! lol
