Builders
« on: December 12, 2009, 03:51:33 PM »
Hello fellow simmers. I had the brilliant idea to make a topic with links to interessting/amazing houses made by fellow sim players at the sim store. If anyone wants me to add a link just comment and I will add it. This should let players who want elaborate houses but are not very good at making them themselves some outstanding living spaces. I am a very experienced builder and made an exteme amount of large elegant houses (if I say so myself :D) so I will be making a plethora myself.

I'm not sure what you meant by add a link, but I'd love to see some of your work or tips you might share, etc.! :)

I will edit my post to include links to the pages where you can download the houses. I am currently working on one, I have the exterior walls put up, and that was hard. I wont say anything else though ;)!

I've always loved building the houses, almost more than playing the game itself! I still enjoy downloading other people's houses sometimes though, because I like to get ideas and see how other people do things.

I really admire folks who can build such beautiful houses. I can build a basic house and expand it over time so that it ends up looking pretty good, but I'm terrible at building something awesome from scratch. I try downloading from the exchange, but I always want a very specific type of house and I don't find that "perfect" one. So, if anyone wants a project for a house to build, maybe you could do one for me? I want it large and spacious, multi-level so that there's still plenty of yard for a pool, pond, garden, and landscaping. Minimal hallways because of pathing issues. Large open kitchen. Well, all rooms need to be large. Ideally, 8 bedrooms would be great.  Lots of bathrooms, too.  A room for recreation (painting, foosball, etc.) and a permanent nursery for at least two babies.  Spare no expense!  Only the best!  No real preferences on color as long as each room has its own theme.  Keep it tasteful, modern, contemporary in style.  It would be a place for a large family for many generations.  15 Summerhill Court would be nice.  Also, one of the lots at the top of the cliffs.  Right now, I've got a house on Thornton Wolfe's old lot.  After he and his wife died, I bulldozed it and put my own house there.  I love the location.

Wow, I'm not asking for much, am I?  Hehe.

Pam, now that they've added the ability to do basements easily, having large multi-level houses is a breeze. I absolutely love the basement feature! I used to build basements the old-fashioned way in Sims 2 and it was a pain in the butt getting the dimensions just right. Now you can go 4 levels up and 4 levels down and have a HUGE house on a moderate lot leaving room for lots of yard stuff.

Hork, I'm sure they'll eventually give us split walls but they can't give us everything NOW. They have to save some things for the expansions so they keep making money.  ;)

LOL, 8 bedrooms!!  My current Sims' home with 3 kids is a big challenge as it is but it sounds like just the house you might be looking for.  I have a 3 car garage, fountain in the front yard and pool area in the back yard, kid's playground and garden area, and plenty of extra room for landscaping.  There is a solarium for foosball, painting, and treadmills overlooking the pool and backyard.  There is currently a master bedroom suite and 3 large kids bed/bath suites on the second floor, with a permanent nursery.  There is one guest bedroom in the basement, but I could easily add 3 more bedrooms there if you like, unless you prefer a third floor.  I usually try to keep everyone within one floor of the ground floor, which has a huge kitchen/dining room, living room with TV, stereo and reading area, and grand entrance hall.  There is a guest bathroom near the back door for gardeners/swimmers and a large spa style bathroom next to the solarium.  It's located at 15 Summer Hill Court.  The colors are in general pretty neutral except for the kids' bedrooms, so you could recolor if you wanted.  There is also a nectar making room in the basement, huge wine cellar, a locked room in the basement where you can put a teleportation pad and treasure chests, and an empty room in the basement for display cases or a photo gallery.

4 up and 4 down? Do you mean an 8 story house or am I reading this wrong? If I'm not what patch do I download?

8 "levels" would be more accurate: 4 levels above ground and 4 basement levels.

If you upload it to the exchange than I can create a link to it for everyone to access it from here.

Ok, I uploaded it:

http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=1698324

Hope you like it!  I'm not great at creating fancy exteriors, and I tend to build in pretty rectangular shapes also... but it's big and functional!  I've never had any pathing problems and tried to use double archways or open plan areas wherever possible.  I deliberately put a lot of white walls in the hallways and the dining room/kitchen so my painter Sims could furnish it with their masterpieces.  The hallway on the second floor is a great place to put portraits of family members.  I had to evict my family that was living there to upload the house empty, lol, so there are a few plates in the kitchen that need to be cleaned up.  I left in the perfect garden (life fruit, death flower, flame fruit, 8 omnis, 20 money trees that are giving off seeds already, pomegranate trees, egg plants, and one tomato plant and one apple tree) and the miscellaneous incense burners/treasure chests from the travels, but if you prefer not to have those spoilers you can easily delete them yourself.  All appliances on the lot have been upgraded (plumbing ones to self-cleaning where possible).

9 bed/bath suites (master suite, 3 kids' suites, 4 unfurnished/undecorated adult suites on the third floor, and guest suite in the basement for those foreign visitors), extra guest bathroom by backyard entrance, spa style bathroom next to solarium/martial arts rooms

3 car garage, nectar making room in basement, full nectar cellar, unfurnished photo/display/painting gallery in basement.  I did delete the teleportation pad so you'll have to not cheat and get your own if you want it.  ;D  But I used to have it in the locked room in the basement with the treasure chests.

I didn't do any recoloring or use any custom content in making the house, so there shouldn't be any compatibility problems.

It's a great house for parties with the huge open plan kitchen/dining room and entrance hall leading to the backyard.

The only thing it doesn't have is a pond, but I'm not great at creating the terrain for those.  There should still be space to add one in the backyard or the front yard if desired.
