Ah yes, being driven to the hospital by the pregnant woman giving birth because he's too busy freaking out. Oh Ash. XD Corrie is the perfect fit for him. While I'm sad Seraphina and Marcelo moved out, I do have to say Ash is definitely suited for being a legacy heir.
I'm excited to see what Sunset Valley has in store for the Kindles!

Chapter 19 – A Lot Of Toddling

The new Kindle babies arrive home with their parents late that night.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Blaise: “Welcome back, Corrie! What’s that you got there?”
Corrie: “A hot dog. Jeez, Mom, what does it look like I've got?"

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Awwww. These two make adorable parents. They both know exactly what their new babies need as soon as they need it. Ahh, blessed game mechanics.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I think Corrie is pretty happy to be a mom.

And Ash? How are you feeling?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash: *delirious grin*

Uh, all right. :o

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian and Nile are very popular babies. The adults of the household are literally queueing up to change their diapers and snuggle them.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Grandpa Justin knows best, though—he sneaks in when everyone else is distracted and gets as many snuggles as he wants.

After the boys are born and settled, Corrie and Blaise take Nile (I was hoping they’d bring both babies, but alas, sims are dumb) across town to visit some old friends.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Marcelo: “Good to see you, Corrie!”
Corrie: “You too, Marcelo. Burning waffles as always, I see.”
Marcelo: “You know it.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Seraphina: “Pssst. Corrie. Our babies look exactly the same.”
Corrie: “I know, it’s like they’re twins!”
Seraphina: “Ha ha, good one!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Because the baby stage is boring as heck, let’s skip ahead to the boys’ first birthday.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Here’s Caspian! Caspian was born with one trait from each of his grandparents—he’s an Athletic Light Sleeper. He likes Pop, Vegetarian Lobster Thermidor, and Sea Foam.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile is a Good Couch Potato who likes Latin music, Vegetarian Fish and Chips, and the color Spice Brown (but I’ve decided he actually prefers red). And he was born with the signature Kindle hair! Hooray! I think both boys most resemble Corrie, although Caspian inherited his daddy’s itty bitty mouth. So there’s that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The toddler training begins in earnest. Granny Blaise takes control of the toilet training. She handles emergencies well, both fire- and bladder-related.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash gets VERY excited when Caspian babbles his first nonsense words.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian: *pig noises*
Ash: "That's my boy, YES!"

Okay I’m actually a bit concerned about both of you?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Grandpa Justin doesn’t do much of the toddler training, but he helps keep the toddlers happy / properly scared for their lives.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Once both boys learn to talk, they spend a lot of time playing blocks together. I really wish this thing moved the friendship bar faster. You’d think that after four straight days of babbling at each other, two toddlers would be more than “acquaintances”.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Walking comes next. Corrie takes charge here.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Both boys also become proficient at the peg box and only the peg box, because I completely forget about the xylophone, I guess. Oops.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Blaise and Justin are making good use of their twilight years. One of their favorite things to do is play catch together. Justin always initiates, and he doesn’t seem to mind when Blaise throws a 40-mph fastball directly at his stomach. He just loves spending time with his wife. :'(

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Although Ash is a naturally good parent, he…isn’t such a natural at using the stroller. But then again, nobody is.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Speaking of parenting, Ash and Corrie apparently can’t get enough of it. They both pop wishes to have another child. Hey, why not?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Seraphina’s pregnant again, too! (I didn’t think she’d have more than one child, since the game plunked her in a house with only one extra bed.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie actually runs into the whole other Kindle family at the library that same day. She gets to meet Trinity as a toddler. Looks like he got the Kindle fire hair too!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

While she’s downtown, Corrie is suddenly overcome with a strange feeling in her stomach.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gobias Koffi: “Ewwww, a local representative vomiting! Cannot unsee! Cannot unsee!”

Politicians are people too, mister. Now shut up and go buy us some coffee. (Do you know how long it took me to figure out that pun? Way too long.)

Chapter 20 – The Blaze

It happens on Friday night. Blaise and Justin are flirting in the kitchen, as they so often are, when Blaise starts feeling a little funny.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Blaise: *sniff* “Whooof, what’s that smell? It smells like death!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Ohhhh.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I knew this was coming (Blaise is about 97 at this point), but I’m never prepared for the spouse’s reaction. Poor Justin’s heart is ripped apart as he watches his wife die before his eyes. :'(

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I know, I know, Justin. Don’t worry, you’ll see her again soon—it won’t be long before you join her! There, isn’t that encouraging?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The family gathers round and Blaise begs Grim for the chance to put out a few more fires and save a few more lives. Alas, it’s her turn to be extinguished.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Blaise: "Hey Justin, watch this! I'm going to jump over you as I dive into my urn!"

Oh, Blaise. Always the daredevil. Always fearless. Rest in peace, my precious founder.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After it’s over, Ash responds in his own way by pouring his grief into music. He plays a strangely upbeat tune in memory of his mother while Justin bobs to the beat.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A few seconds later, the camera jumps again (and my heartrate with it)—but it’s just Corrie discovering that she’s pregnant. Looks like a new life has begun where another has ended!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Although Ash and Corrie are happy to be expecting again, the pain of Blaise’s death is still fresh enough to cast a shadow on their joy. Or…at least on Corrie’s. Ash, what on earth are you clapping and cackling about?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Oh.

Yep, that’s three camera jumps in the span of about five minutes. Corrie transitions from crying over Blaise to laughing at her husband’s middle-aged transformation.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie: “You lost...all your...your hair! Hahahaha!” *wheeze*
Ash: “Please stop.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie: “On second thought, it’s so ugly I feel sick.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As Corrie runs to the bathroom to throw up, Ash is launched into a midlife crisis. Not surprising, after he watches his mother die, finds out his wife is pregnant, and becomes middle-aged all in one day. Ignoring Ash’s first wish to divorce Corrie, I let him grow out a bit of facial hair to make up for the temporary hair loss. Judging by his autonomous preening in front of the mirror, he’s all right with it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Later, I interrupt Ash in the middle of cooking some goopy carbonara in order to have him go feed Caspian. He walks away from the stove and…a fire breaks out. The butler is kind enough to alert me with her screaming.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I think this is the first fire in Kindle family history, and this is when I suddenly feel really sad about Blaise’s death. If Blaise had been here for the fire, she would have (a) gone crazy with excitement, and (b) put it out like the expert firefighter she was. I mean, the fire gets put out regardless, but…I’m really sad that Blaise missed out on the first Kindle blaze. :(

The firefighter arrives after the fire is put out.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Hi. I came straight here when I heard there was a fire at the Kindle house. Where is the famous Mrs. Kindle? I’ve always wanted to meet her.”

“Mrs. Kindle? She’s upstairs, but she may be asl—“

“Ooh, upstairs! Thank you.”

The firefighter runs up and bursts into Corrie’s bedroom...where she seemingly puts two and two together.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“What do you MEAN Blaise Kindle is dead? I never got her autograph! NOOOOOOO!!!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

NPC firefighters aren’t the only ones having trouble adjusting to Blaise’s death. Justin hardly knows what to do with himself over the next few days. He goes out to visit Blaise in the garden often.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Out on her second maternity leave, Corrie spends her time meeting the people of Sunset Valley. She finds a particular friend in Agnes Crumplebottom, her next-door neighbor, who autonomously comforts her amid her grief.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Agnes also happens to be the mother of one of the many potential spouses for our boys. Look at this little cutie! And you’ll never guess what her name is, or who her father is.

Fine, I’ll tell you. Her name is Gladys. Can you believe it? Agnes Crumplebottom had a daughter named Gladys Crumplebottom. How perfect is that? And Gladys’s father, of all people, is Xander Clavell. ??? I couldn't put together a less likely couple if I tried.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As the mourning period comes to an end and a certain double birthday looms, Corrie and Ash redouble their efforts in training their sons to walk, talk, and potty.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I notice that Nile makes this adorably weirded-out face whenever his daddy tosses him in the air. If I knew he didn’t have the Neurotic trait, I’d think he had the Neurotic trait.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And Justin doesn’t have to wait long before his love makes an appearance as a ghost.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Our poor little Light Sleeper does NOT appreciate his dead grandmother disturbing his slumber, though. He screams the night away as Justin woos his wife with ghostly pickup lines.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Granny Blaise wants nothing more than to keep her grandsons awake all night, I guess. After Justin goes back to bed, she spends the next few hours until dawn doing squats to hip-hop music. Very considerate, Blaise.

Next time, we have a couple of new Kindles to meet and some birthdays to celebrate! (Also, Happy Fourth to my fellow Americans out there!)

Chapter 21 – Boys & Butlers

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In her adventures schmoozing with townspeople, Corrie meets a number of women who are pregnant just like her. So many potential spouses! She and Emma Hatch get along swimmingly and talk about their mutual nausea and cravings for ice cream.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Poor, dramatic Ash is having a hard time adjusting to adulthood. I swear, young man, you have the flattest stomach of all time for someone who doesn’t work out! There is no need for that face!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A protest breaks out downtown one evening (against thievery, I guess, or else masquerade balls), and both Kindles take advantage of the crowds and use them for their own ends. Ash plays his guitar for some hefty tips; Corrie gets to know more citizens and starts planting seeds of her political ideas.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This also works out well when Corrie goes into labor—she has a nice audience that’s already worked itself into a political frenzy. The townsfolk transition effortlessly into a medical frenzy as Corrie’s contractions start in earnest.

And what’s the husband’s reaction to all of this?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Yay, my wife has become so popular already! I can’t wait to see her get elected!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I guess Ash is just a little slow to realize what’s going on. It’s not until Corrie strides off down the street towards the car that the panic hits him.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In any case, the Kindles make it to the hospital and come out a couple hours later with their third child, Rhone. It’s another boy! I’ve never seen a baby wheeled out of the hospital in a stroller before and it might be the cutest thing of all time. Look how happy he is!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Uh…babe? That’s not how you push a stroller.”
“Shut your mouth, Ash. You can’t do it either and you know it.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rhone is welcomed into the Kindle household. Corrie is getting antsy and is eager to get back to work, I can tell—her coworkers are always calling to check in on her, and she keeps popping wishes to advance in her career (or else quit her job, but we don't talk about that). Soon, Corrie, soon! Just a few more days.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian and Nile are doing well as they near the end of their toddler years. With their skills all taken care of, they spend their days playing with toys and chatting over the blocks table.

(Caspian is evidently the goofier of the two—I keep catching him making weird faces whilst doing normal activities, like in the blocks table picture above.)

Well, okay, Nile makes weird faces too.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie: “Look, sweetie, Mama’s having a birthday! See the sparkles?”
Nile: “...?”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Justin’s thriving as well in his old age. He misses Blaise, but he’s enjoying some peace and quiet now that his family is more financially stable and he can take the occasional night off from hacking. When he gets a little Stir Crazy, I send him to the beach to get some fresh air. (I wonder if Cornelia Goth is trying to get a tan. I wonder if that’s even possible for a Goth.)

Corrie takes advantage of her downtime and becomes best friends with her boss, Tori Kimura-Koffi.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Tori: “If you want a raise when you come back to City Hall, you’re gonna have to beat me in this Mario Kart race!”
Corrie: “Uh...what?”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Well, okay then.” *VROOOOOOOM*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

On the day of the twins’ birthday, we have a strange visitor to the house: a new butler. Yes, that sleeping woman in the background is the old butler. The new butler arrives before the old one shows any signs of leaving. I think this new one might be possessed. Look at her eyes!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ignoring that weirdness for a moment, let’s watch Caspian blow out his candles!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A birthday is enough to rouse the old butler from her bed. She appears in the kitchen with no pants on, because apparently the new butler stole her uniform? I don’t know.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian becomes a child in a shower of sparkles.

And the new butler makes her move.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Booooo! You’re obsolete, underwear lady! Go check into a nursing home! BOOOOO!”

Well, I’m trying not to be too concerned. The game probably just sent us an extra butler by mistake. Maybe if I resetsim on the new butler she’ll go back to wherever she—

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hey! What did you do, new butler?!

So our new butler apparently has powers beyond her NPC status. She boos the old butler and within seconds, the old butler vanishes into thin air without a trace. Um…okay. I guess we’re stuck with new butler now. I am shooketh. :o

Anyway…let’s get back to the birthdays?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile ages up after his brother.

And here are our handsome young lads!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian becomes a Kleptomaniac. Hmmm. A thieving, athletic light sleeper—do we have a future professional criminal on our hands?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And Nile becomes—very excitingly—a Light Sleeper too. Now both twins can stay up all night together! Yay!

Chapter 22 – Half-Made Pasta

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile wishes to learn to fish. He…has a hard time with it. Or gets really into it. It's hard to tell.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Awww, don’t look like that, kiddo! It’ll get easier with practice.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

All Caspian wants to do, meanwhile, is have his parents and grandfather read him bedtime stories. Seriously, he spends HOURS every evening going from person to person, asking for a story, until the interaction disappears and he has to start over. I can’t help wondering if he’s making them disappear on purpose, for some klepto-related reason. ???

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Seraphina and Marcelo have gotten busy and had another baby. Corrie runs into Marcelo and baby Margo down at the park.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Aaaaand she tries to kiss him. Corrie, come on, we’ve talked about this! I spent WEEKS in-game orchestrating your love life, precisely so this wouldn’t happen!

At least Marcelo, even though he’s Inappropriate too, has the conscience to reject his sister-in-law’s advances. Oi. I think I’d like to fast-forward through the rest of Corrie’s midlife crisis, please and thank you. (At least this satisfies her wish to flirt with someone else.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The fun events continue with yet another kitchen fire. Man, Blaise is really missing out. I’m pretty sure this one is caused by Rhone’s birthday cake going up in flames.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Although our new butler looks awfully relieved. A little too relieved. I still don't trust you, lady.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Our same firefighter friend shows up again, several minutes after the fire is put out. It’s like she doesn’t even care about rescuing the Kindles anymore, now that Blaise the Great is dead.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Well, before we can re-do Rhone’s birthday, the older boys have to head off to their first day of school. Good luck, kids! Meet some potential spouses nice friends!

Rhone’s cake candles do not explode the second time around, and we finally get to see what the newest Kindle looks like.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie's a little excited that her son is finally growing out of the infant stage. Almost as excited as me.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

He’s a cutie! Rhone is Eccentric and Neurotic, which, you could argue, are almost synonyms anywhere except in the Sims. His favorite things are pop music, Goopy Carbonara, and lime green.

Toddler spam / toddler training montage begins now:

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And some bonus toddler spam!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This is cousin Margo—she grows up into a toddler around the same time as Rhone. Isn’t she adorable? And she got Justin’s faintly-red-streaked black hair!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile and Caspian take boyhood by the horns and have a great time with it. They do their homework, make friends at school, play a lot of video games together…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

…and still make time to hug their parents.

Justin, meanwhile, is preoccupied with another round of butler drama. Something about the butler (or possibly our kitchen) is glitched, because the butler keeps starting to prepare meals and then leaving them unfinished. Over and over and over. By the time I realize what’s happening, there are about nine bowls of half-made pasta on all the countertops, and Lana here has drained probably a hundred dollars in ingredient costs from our family bank account.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Understandably, I guess, she’s a bit miffed when Justin dismisses her.

“I can’t help it! I’m afraid of your stove, okay?! I admit it! Ever since the fire I’ve been too afraid to go near it! Not that I caused the fire, or anything...I'm just afraid I'll start another one! I mean––that is––you––YOU CAN'T FIRE ME!"

Justin lets her go anyway, because I tell him to. I clear all the half-prepared meals away so Justin can actually cook a meal for his family. All is well again.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Or not. Of course, the game sends over yet another butler almost instantly. And what does he do? He starts cooking. Sorry, dude, you’re gonna have to find work elsewhere. (And I remember to cancel the butler service this time.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie is nearing the end of her midlife crisis at last. She’s had a difficult time, popping several impossible wishes and spending every spare moment in front of the mirror checking for wrinkles.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Of course, her body image problems aren’t helped by her current work outfit. She worked so hard for her last promotion, and she has to wear THIS??

To close out this chapter, let’s enjoy some more toddler spam. Because Rhone is just too cute. (Or maybe it’s just the hair. Or the onesie that I designed myself. Yes, I know it's adorable, thank you very much.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This little cutie isn’t too far from aging up. We’ve got more excitement coming! Stay tuned!

Top tier ginger indeed! I love that description of her. I miss her too, but I'm planning to keep her ghost around for a while, so we should be seeing her now and then. Thank you so much for reading, Trip! I'm honored. :)

Chapter 23 – Boys Will Be Boys Or Something

Because spouse-hunting is apparently my favorite part of playing the Sims, I get Caspian and Nile started early. I try to have them hang out with a variety of girls around town throughout their childhood so they can start building relationships.

They key word here, of course, is try.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Lindy Ursine: “Caspian, Nile! Come play tag with me!”
Nile: “Not now, Lindy. Doing math.”
Caspian: “You know, we really ought to be studying GIRLS in school. They’re so weird and confusing!”

I still force the boys to socialize, though.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This is Francine Kimura-Koffi, she of the striking blue eyes.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And this is Gladys Crumplebottom, who might be my #1 pick purely because of her name. :D

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Lindy Ursine is here too, and does not approve of Nile talking to other girls.

The boys also spend some time getting to know their cousin, Trinity.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Trinity: “Ever since my mom aged up, she’s had that stupid, fluffy hairdo. She looks like a grandma! Hahaha!”
Caspian: “Yeah…a pregnant grandma! Hahaha!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash is working steadily to get Rhone’s toddler skills set. I think he’s ready to be done with the toddler training, though…or at least the potty training. Or maybe he's just being dramatic.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rhone looks ready to be done also. Hang in there, bud—just a few more verb conjugations.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Psst, Daddy. I run, you run, he runs, she runs, they run, we run—“

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

But the big news with Ash is that he finally maxes out his guitar skill, completing his Lifetime Wish. Congrats, Ash! (He also maxes out the painter career at some point, but I don’t even realize when it happens. Possibly weeks ago.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

With level 10 guitar skill, Ash has the ability to attract a huge crowd and make thousands of dollars in tips when he plays downtown. Or maybe that’s just because he brought his cute toddler along.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie is rising through the political ranks at City Hall (and getting better work outfits) and finally gets to throw her first campaign fundraiser.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It’s a hoppin’ party, with a lot of familiar faces from around town (including Seraphina, who still wears her wedding dress to parties, apparently).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Zelda Mae (who is married to Christopher Steele and had better start having babies, please) makes sure the kids attending the party stay busy and happy.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie manages to raise a ridiculous amount of money at this party and makes a lot of new friends to boot. She’s not too far from maxing out the charisma skill at this point. She's on track for a fine career as a politician! Especially with that face.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Justin, meanwhile, spends the party in the hot tub. That's my kind of party activity.

As the twins’ boyhood winds to a close, Nile figures out how to build towers with blocks.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Watcher, Watcher! Look at this tower I made with only one arm!”

Uh, yeah, cuz your other arm is EXTRUDING FROM YOUR NECK? That’s not how bodies work, kid! Stop that!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

On their last evening as children, the twins make for their spaceship-treehouse to watch the sun go down and cause some last-minute mischief (or whatever boys do in treehouses). As Nile is approaching the ladder, Aunt Seraphina waddles by sporting a massive pregnant belly. I have no idea why she’s here or how she snuck onto the lot, but it basically scares the bejesus out of me.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian joins a little while later. This kid really loves the treehouse—he’s voluntarily slept out here multiple times. I think he has an honorary Loves the Outdoors trait.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“So, Nile…what’s Aunt Seraphina doing down there?”
“I don’t know. She’s been there since I came outside. She's just been…lurking.”
“Spooky.”
“Yeah.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The birthdays hit while the boys are up in the treehouse. Nile comes down first, for some reason, even though he’s younger, and leaps into his teenage years whilst his mother ridicules him for some unknowable reason.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian teleports to earth afterwards.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“All right, earthlings. It's MY turn.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Somehow the teleporting thing cancels the “have birthday” interaction for Caspian, so he has his birthday indoors a few minutes later, via MasterController.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile grows into a strapping lad and becomes—oh, lordy—Insane. (Have I mentioned that Nile is quickly becoming my favorite?)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And Caspian, taking after both his parents, becomes Excitable. You can really tell, with these new traits, that neither of these boys gets enough sleep. :o

Much drama is ahead. Onward, to teenhood!

Chapter 24 – Everything Is Flammable

I swear to you, we had no fires in this house before Blaise died. Now that our built-in firefighter is gone, we have a fire approximately every five seconds. This family is really living up to its name.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

For example.

I don’t even know how this one breaks out. I mean, it’s always the stove—but I don’t think anybody was cooking anything. Everyone was cheering about cake! What happened, guys?!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian, with his newfound ability to Do Things, tries to put out the fire but can’t seem to figure out how to work a fire extinguisher. What, you mean your grandmother didn’t teach you this as a toddler? For shame, Granny Blaise!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Since Caspian can’t figure it out, we have to wait for the actual firefighter to arrive (though he arrives in record time, I must say). The firefighter demonstrates that one must insert one’s fire extinguisher directly into the stove itself in order for successfully quell the blaze. Mmmkay, thanks for that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The fire dwindles, and still poor Caspian is left staring down the fire extinguisher tube, trying to figure out how to work it. Not exactly Handy, are ya, kiddo?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After the fire finally dies, I have to pause the game and take this screenshot. Because I don’t think I ever realized before how utterly identical Ash and Justin look. Am I just an idiot? Have I been blind all these long years? They look like the same person thirty years apart! (If you could see Corrie’s face back there, you’d see that she and Nile also look really alike. So there’s that, too.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

NPCs really seem to be glitched in Sunset Valley. Our faithful firefighter friend ends up sticking around and hanging out by the stove for a very long time after his work is done. He demonstrates his exhaustion with a dramatic flair that almost puts him on par with Ash.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

By morning, he’s still here, and demonstrating his Clumsy trait by toppling fully into the newly-replaced stove every so often. Such talent! Not all sims are capable of melding with furniture like that.

In spite of the firefighter loitering in their kitchen, Caspian and Nile must head to school and start learning stuff.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian: “You ready for our first day of high school, bro?”
Nile: “As ready as I'll ever be.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

That evening, Rhone finally has a birthday, witnessed by most of his immediate family and…the firefighter. (Should we just go ahead and adopt this guy, or what?)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rhone ages up into a frankly beautiful child and becomes Clumsy. Evidently he’s absorbed some of the glitchy firefighter’s qualities.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At long last, a full twenty-four hours after he arrived, our friendly firefighter detaches himself from the kitchen counter and makes his way upstairs to perform the firefighter ritual of Screaming At The Current Mrs. Kindle While She Sleeps. Then, finally, FINALLY, he takes off into the night.

Things settle down at last and the family gets some sleep. They’re going to need it…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

…because the next day is Justin’s last day on earth.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At 104 days old, Justin Kayes Kindle has lived a long and prosperous life. He has singlehandedly hacked tens of thousands of dollars into the family bank account, raised two children and three grandchildren, cooked dozens of high-quality meals, and spent many glorious hours hot-tubbing. He’s ready to be reunited with Blaise. RIP, Justin.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Get ready, Blaise...I’m comin’ for ya!”

Needless to say, the Kindles are heartbroken, and must begin to deal with death in their own individual ways.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

That includes Rhone.

“What are you looking at, kid?”
“Nothing...what are YOU looking at?”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At first, I wonder if Rhone is up to something suspicious. Then he pulls out a pillow. And he starts whacking the Grim Reaper over the head with it.

Grim whacks him back, and that, my friends, is how a ten-year-old boy deals with death.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile: “Mom? Dad? Are you seeing this? I don’t know if this is a healthy activity…”

Nile, come on, you’re Insane! You ought to be joining in!

Death aside, Nile has something more pressing to deal with—young love.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile has developed a bit of a crush on one of his childhood friends. (Or maybe I have. What? Never mind...) Even though it’s late and he’s suffering from that -50 Mourning moodlet, he shows up at the Crumplebottom house to see if the object of his desire is home.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys Crumplebottom has grown up into a slightly less adorable teen than I’d hoped, but there’s still something oddly cute about her. She kindly answers the door in her hot pink pajama shirt and flirts with Nile until the police come to pick him up. They become Romantic Interests just in the nick of time.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Oops, that’s my siren. Gotta go! See you in school, Gladys!”

Yes, Nile gets driven home by the cops since it’s after 11 pm. Ash gives him a proper scolding.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“You took a taxi across town at midnight in a suit, just to talk to a girl?? Are you out of your MIND?!

Grounded, Nile goes to bed exhausted and angry. The next morning, he’s forced to stay home from school, because that makes sense, but he tries to make amends by making all the beds in the house and cleaning some bathroom sinks.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

For some reason, this only makes Ash angrier.

“What on EARTH made you think plumping some pillows would get you on my good side? Are you insane?!”

Um, yes, Ash, he is. And I'm starting to think you are, too.

Well, it's been a couple days. Guess it's time for a fire.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Dad! Did you leave waffles in the oven when you came upstairs to scold me?!”
“What? Me? No, of course not! It was the butler!”
“Dad, we don’t have a butler! Grandpa fired the last two and the one before that vanished into thin air!”
“Just shut up and put out the fire, Nile!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

He does. And, oh hey, it’s our firefighter friend again.

“Looks like you have this under control. I’m going to go home now.”

Yes, good boy.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After the fire is out, Ash suddenly feels compelled to let his son off the hook.

“I guess since you just saved our lives and our espresso machine from certain doom, you can go to school now.”
“Gee, thanks."

I think we’re in for some wildly fun teen years.

The moment Blaise dies the house starts bursting into flames every five seconds. That's.... XD
I'm glad Justin is with Blaise now even if it is bittersweet.  :'(

I'm glad that Ash values the espresso machine enough to let poor Nile off the hook.

I know, right? It's actually been kind of annoying, because now I have to actually make my sims put the fires out. Blaise no longer comes sprinting with her fire extinguisher to save the day. :(

Agreed. Coffee is more important than everything, even family! ;D

Chapter 25 – What It’s Like To Be Salad

We left off with Nile getting grounded, saving his angry dad (and espresso machine) from a fire, and getting un-grounded. Basically, he’s had a rough couple of days. But I’m happy to say that things are progressing steadily between him and Gladys Crumplebottom. Gladys voluntarily comes over after school and spends a lovely afternoon giggling with Nile and hugging Nile and holding hands with Nile.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

All is going as planned. All machinery is running smoothly. No problems to report.

And what about Caspian, you may ask?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After Gladys goes home, Nile invites over his best friend and other potential spouse, Francine Kimura-Koffi. I intend this as a “let’s get to know the other option just in case” sort of deal, but apparently Francine has other plans. She makes a beeline for Caspian the moment she steps on the lot.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hmmm. Yes, things start heating up between these two right away. They hardly know each other, but Caspian is already popping wishes to give her gifts and ask her to prom. Plus, these two are both Athletic, which gives them something concrete to talk about. Also, side note: Francine turned out mega cute, did she not?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

By the end of the night, Caspian has asked Francine to prom (her response: “Sure, can you just make sure I show up?” #relatable) and kissed her for the first time. Hooray! Spouse hunting is proving to be pretty darn easy in this town. Thank goodness. After last generation, I personally am in need of a break from romantic drama.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Oh hey, look who stops by for a visit! I come across Justin admiring his ghostly feet in the hot tub that night and can’t help but smile to myself.

He also makes a point of saying hello to his daughter-in-law.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Hello there, Corrie.”

“Hi, Dad.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

He then proceeds to haunt…um…Corrie’s salad. I am not kidding. He hovers next to her for a moment, then takes a flying leap and dives into the autumn salad Corrie is literally about to put into her mouth. Needless to say, Corrie puts her fork the fork down and backs away warily.

“Dad, EW! Get out of my food!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Justin: “Ha ha, I’ve always wondered what it’s like to be salad!”
Corrie: “You’re disgusting, Dad.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In spite of being scarred for life by haunted lettuce the night before, Corrie gets promoted to Mayor the next day and gets a snazzy new work uniform. (She looks excited not because of her promotion, but because she's about to take her clothes off and jump in the hot tub. Go figure.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

That evening is prom. Caspian looks dapper in his bright seafoam tuxedo; of course Nile foregoes his paisley suitjacket for this vintage athletic jacket and some fingerless gloves.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The boys hop in the limo with Francine, who is officially going as Caspian’s date. It’s my hope that both boys will leave prom in steady relationships, but we’ll have to see how things go.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In reality, prom goes very well for Caspian and not very well for Nile. After seeing Caspian’s smooth dance moves, Francine asks him to go steady. Nile, meanwhile, falls flat on his face on the dance floor. Caspian is voted prom king; Nile gets into a fight over someone wearing the same outfit as him. (Why does that always happen to my Insane sims, who don’t even wear the right clothes to prom?) There is no mention of Gladys in Nile’s prom notifications. :(

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The night’s excitement isn’t over. Soon after the boys go to bed, an unwelcome visitor appears on the lot. It’s our first burglar!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Both of our Light Sleepers awaken right on cue, and the rest of the family hurries downstairs to apprehend the criminal.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Before anyone can make a move, there’s a cop there, and she has the robber in a headlock. Impressive!

The cop takes care of the robber in record time. Corrie, apparently, has never seen anything so incredible in her entire life.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Oh my GAWD, that was the most amazing thing I’ve ever SEEN!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The burglar walks out in handcuffs…followed closely by Rhone. For a second, I wonder if Rhone has another one of his pillow-fight-with-evil-being things planned. Turns out he’s just heading out to play on the playground at 3 am.

With his prom night a bit of a failure, Nile is eager to make things right with Gladys. He calls her up and asks her to meet him at the beach. (This time, he remembers to wear his formalwear.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“There you are, Gladys! Can you come over here so we can talk?”

“Sorry, what?!”

“No, wait, it’s fine—I’ll wade out and meet you!”

What?!?

After several attempts at reaching Gladys physically or communicatively, it turns out Nile can’t interact with her while she’s swimming in the ocean. So after a little bit of resetsim (after which I assume she is sent back home), he calls her on the phone to ask her out again.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Oh, hey, Gladys! I just called you! I was hoping we could meet at the other beach—”

“You got it! I’ll meet you there!”

Well, that was rather pointless. In any case, the two young’uns eventually make it to Sunnyside Strand, where Nile grabs Gladys’s hand before she can run into the water again like the apparent mermaid she is.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Gladys, wait! I didn’t get a chance to talk to you at prom…I wanted to tell you—that, um—that I—“

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile decides that his actions will speak louder than words. And Gladys hears him loud and clear.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Awwww. Look how sheepish and happy he looks!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Be my mermaid? I mean, my girlfriend?”

“Of course!”

And that’s both our twins set to go! Ahhh, it’s a relief to have that over with. *wipes palms* Congrats to the two happy couples. Now, what are we going to do for the next week and a half of teenhood?

Enjoying this so far.  Justin is one of my favourite Twinbrook townies.  I don't think I've played with Blaise, although I remember the hair (of course :)).  Their descendants are turning out to be an interesting bunch.

Chapter 26 – Exciting Things Happen When You Wear a Bikini

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile and Gladys have an…interesting relationship. As soon as he convinces Gladys to be his girlfriend, Nile immediately launches into a full-on display of his insanity. He talks about conspiracies, asks about Gladys’s supposed fishing habits, and makes weird faces—the whole bit.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At first, Gladys humors him. Like, “Wow, Nile, that is truly fascinating."

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

But she also doesn’t really buy all of his strange ideas and theories.

Nile: “…so it only makes sense that you’re a mermaid! Ha ha! I figured you out!"
Gladys: “Nile, stop it. You found me swimming ONE TIME, and besides, we don’t even have Island Paradise!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hopefully it’ll be good for Nile to have someone around to keep him rational when necessary. These two are very sweet together.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The rest of the family is thriving, as usual. Ash is drawing such crowds with his guitar playing that his audience members can’t untangle themselves in order to tip him. (Even with the traffic jam, he still manages to make like 3,000 simoleons from several hours of playing.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rhone is a very happy kid, especially now that he has his big brothers’ spaceship treehouse all to himself. All he ever wants to do is play in it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Well, that and have pillow fights.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such miserable-looking kids doing homework together. Except Rhone, who just likes watching his older brothers squirm.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Blaise makes an appearance to lick the crumbs off an empty plate now and then.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie is moving rapidly upwards in the political world. Tori Kimura-Koffi is generous enough to promote her to Vice President whilst Corrie is wearing her bikini. I have to wonder how much of an effect the bikini had on this interaction, but hey, they ARE best friends.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Exciting things happen when you wear a bikini, I guess. Corrie is still wearing hers when she gets electrocuted for the first time. (Note to self: don’t ask sims with handiness level 2 to repair a broken hot tub.) At least the experience is made more bearable by her husband’s soothing background music.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Oh, goody, another fire! I have actually lost count at this point. I also wasn't aware that water itself can catch on fire. Who knew? (Probably Blaise.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Now we know where Caspian gets his inability to work a fire extinguisher. Ash, you’re the son of Blaise Kindle! How are you so incompetent?!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As usual, it’s an NPC that saves the day.

“Oh, hi Ms. Maid, thank you, nothing to see here, wasn’t my fault, thank you, bye!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rhone’s elementary school days fly by and before we know it, he’s becoming a teenager. His birthday coincides with one of Corrie’s campaign fundraisers, so he gets a nice audience.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rhone becomes a Bookworm and decides to throw on a pair of snazzy lime-green spectacles.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I was going to take my time in finding a spouse for Rhone, I swear. As it happens, when he goes with Corrie to a party up at the Landgraabs, he wanders across the street to the park and meets the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen. This is Karie Mae-Steele, the daughter of Zelda Mae and Christopher Steele.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It’s rare that a romance happens so organically (and quickly) in my game, but this one blossoms without so much as a drop of rain or a beam of sun. As soon as these two meet, Karie starts flirting with Rhone. Rhone starts popping wishes for Karie as soon as she opens her mouth. And with the beautiful park in the background and the stars above, this love story seems about perfect, doesn’t it?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Just before curfew, in the glow of moonlit forget-me-nots, Rhone and Karie share their first kiss. I think I’m okay with this. I think I’m VERY okay with this.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And with that, all three Kindle boys have girlfriends well before the move to the next town. Huzzah! And all three seem to be very happy in their relationships. To prove this, here’s a particularly steamy shot of Caspian and Francine making out in the hot tub. They climb in the hot tub together of their own accord and only need a little encouragement to start getting physical. Yowza. :)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie is becoming increasingly bored in her free time. All she ever does is (a) sit in the hot tub, or (b) make inappropriate posts on forums. She needs a hobby. So she picks up bass, mostly for my own entertainment.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Don’t be fooled by that happy-go-lucky, oh-my-gosh-we’re-in-Disneyland smile in the first picture. Most of the time when she’s playing, Corrie looks like she's picking maggots out of the trash can or something.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash continues to play guitar almost nonstop, even though he maxed the skill long ago. There is nothing he loves more than a good strum and an enthusiastic audience.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It’s only fitting, then, that he celebrate his elder birthday before a flock of adoring fans.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The first child born in the Kindle town jump is now an old man. Congrats, Ash! I mean, sorry Ash.

Love your Kindles Amaranthin! And your writing is so funny----the line where you say "Corrie looks as happy playing bass as if she were plucking maggots out of the trash can"---that had me laughing out loud. And I love insane sims too. The way they never pick the proper clothes or say or do anything you expect. In an upcoming chapter of my town jump game, an Insane GF hits on the most inappropriate person in her BF's family! Insane sims, gotta luv 'em!

Chapter 27 – Boys Become Men

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash and Corrie continue to be as cute and in love as ever. By the way, did I ever mention that these two share a love for the color spiceberry? I don’t know if I’ve ever had a couple with the same favorite color. Yet another reason these guys are one of my favorite couples of all time.

Corrie throws campaign fundraiser parties pretty regularly. Usually they’re on the tame side—unless Corrie’s inappropriate trait decides to make an appearance. Which, at this particular party, it does.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Can you spot what is wrong with this picture?

Yes, that was Corrie planting a kiss on Christopher Steel, and Christopher Steel reciprocating. Mind you, both these sims are happily married, and Corrie is currently the Vice President of Sunset Valley. And she’s doing this at her own campaign fundraiser. Those are just the first couple of reasons why this is so very disturbing. I could go on to mention that Christopher Steel’s daughter is currently dating Corrie’s son. But let’s get on with things before we hurt ourselves.

Ash is oblivious at first to his wife’s antics. But when a second kiss happens shortly after, he finally stirs from his reverie and confronts His Majesty Christopher, Founder Of Immortal Dynasties.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash: “How could you do this, Mr. Steel? My wife’s a renowned politician! She can’t afford to be seen locking lips with every slick-haired bozo she meets!”
Christopher: “I swear, I didn’t—I didn’t mean to—she kissed me!
Corrie (plucking and singing): “Everything’s fine, everything’s fine…”

Once Mr. Steel is put in his place and Corrie apologizes to Ash for her momentary unfaithfulness, the real event of the evening occurs. Surprise, this is actually the twins’ birthday party!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian, the oldest, goes first.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Whoa. I get a physique now?"

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile is up to bat immediatey after. His forceful interruption of the mass descent upon Caspian’s birthday cake causes almost every person in the room to do the “help, I’m stuck” wave at the exact same time.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Apparently, this also throws off Nile’s depth perception.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

His hair gets suddenly slickified, too.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Our boys become men, and boy, what nice men they become. Caspian decides to make use of his new ability to grow facial hair. His final set of traits: Athletic, Light Sleeper, Kleptomaniac, Excitable, and…Evil. Muahaha! Unsurprisingly, Caspian aspires to become a Master Thief.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile follows with a less aggressive amount of facial hair and decides to go back to his old shaggy-but-at-least-it's-combed hairstyle. His final traits are Good, Couch Potato, Light Sleeper, Insane, and Lucky. His Lifetime Wish is to be a Professional Author.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian tries out his shiny new Evil trait right away by scaring the bejesus out of his baby brother.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

But oddly enough, his Evil tendencies come with a side of Neat tendencies. Suddenly he spends a lot of his free time cleaning the counters and taking care of dirty plates. Maybe he’s secretly struggling with guilt? (He’s literally only done two bad things in his life: he stole a pillar from someone’s yard back in high school, and just now he scared his brother. That’s it.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

My last screenshot from the party is this one of Seraphina and Marcelo. They stay later than all the other guests, dance with more skill than all the other guests, and donate more money to Corrie’s campaign than all the other guests. Thanks, guys! You're the best (and the cutest).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian might be dealing with some guilt issues underneath his Evil persona, but his Evil persona still has no problem coming out on top. That very night, Caspian goes downtown to steal his first car.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The next day is a bittersweet day—it’s Corrie’s elder birthday. She spends the morning rocking out in the kitchen with her husband, pretending that she’s not about to get old.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The birthday hits her while she’s playing video games, because nobody in this family does anything else unless I tell them to.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The sparkles fade, and we’re left with an old but adorable Corrie, who’s still as Excitable as ever.

Corrie: “Yay, I’m old!”
Rhone: “Oh, no, my mom is old!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Now that the twins are grown up, it’s time for them to take things further with their respective partners. Caspian heads downtown and runs into Francine in front of the movie theater. Francine has, conveniently, had a birthday as well.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Francine happily agrees to move in with the Kindles and gets a mini makeover. Really I just give her some lipstick and better eyebrows. She’s already drop-dead gorgeous as she is. Francine is a Grumpy, Athletic, Artistic, Unflirty Perfectionist, and she wants to be a Master of the Arts. Her favorite things are Egyptian music, Tri-Tip Steak, and the color Grey (which she’s already dressed herself in, hooray!).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Immediately upon moving in, Francine wishes to learn guitar. I eagerly buy her one and plop it into her inventory. She starts strumming away with some of the most beautifully derpy facial expressions I’ve ever seen on a sim.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Of course, her confidence goes out the window when a certain level 10 guitarist strolls through the room.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Why, poor Francine looks positively depressed as she plucks her way up through the first couple levels of guitar.

Ash: “Yikes. That girl needs some lessons real bad.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Eventually, Ash does what any good future-father-in-law would do. He pulls out his own guitar and starts showing Francine how it’s done. By eveningtime, the master and the amateur are going at it hard and having a grand old time. And Francine makes it up to level 3 or 4 in just a few hours!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

We’ll end this chapter with a huge success for Corrie. The day after her elder birthday, she finally gets promoted for the last time and becomes Leader of the Free World. Congrats, Corrie! It’s an honor well-deserved.

Chapter 28 – The Prettiest Crumplebottom

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Last chapter, we saw Francine, Caspian’s girlfriend, move into the household. Now Nile is eager to make his relationship with Gladys more…domestic? Permanent? Something like that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys is a newly minted adult as well, but evidently she and Nile are still in the process of figuring out how to kiss. Nile must have heard somewhere that forehead kisses are a tender alternative to full-on mouth-to-mouth action. Awww?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Once that awkwardness is over, Nile tells Gladys how much he loves her, and then asks her to be his wife.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys practically takes off into flight, so great is her excitement. :)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

She says yes, of course, and in her happiness she smooshes her face into Nile’s shoulder. A very loving gesture.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys joins the Kindle household, and let me tell you, I have been waiting for this moment for a LONG time. I’ve been dying to give Gladys a makeover ever since she was a young teen. I’ve had a hunch that she just needed some tweaking to be truly beautiful, and oh, my. Are you ready for this before and after?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ta-da! Look at this beautiful lady! All she needed was a fresh set of eyebrows and some eyelashes (her eyelash slider was set all the way at zero, the poor thing). And just like that, she’s one of the most gorgeous townie sims I’ve ever seen. Gladys’s traits are Good, Grumpy, Loser, Over-Emotional, and Lucky. (She shares two of those traits—Good and Lucky—with Nile.) Her LTW is to be the CEO of a Mega-Corporation, and her favorite things are French music (my favorite), Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches, and the color white.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys immerses herself (heh heh) in Kindle life with wholehearted enthusiasm. She and Nile certainly have no qualms about displaying their affection for one another. :o

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And Caspian has no qualms about stealing his soon-to-be sister-in-law’s clothes. What a welcome gift.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash: “Why hello there, Gladys! When did you move in? Would you...would you like to have a look through Corrie’s wardrobe...?”
Caspian: “…”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

We nearly have a full household now, and three of our family members are musicians. Everybody’s popping wishes to jam together and start a band. Rhone decides to give the drums a try, and just like that, we have a family band, kind of! They call themselves the Flammable Pajammers. Whose idea was that? I couldn’t tell you.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile wishes to throw a bachelor party. I always forget to send the fiance or fiancee away for these parties. Naturally, Gladys ends up being one of the most enthusiastic nectar-sprayers at the party.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The rest of the family blows the whole party playing video games, though. Typical.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The party dancers arrive as endless night descends upon the valley. Oh, wait, that’s just one of the Keaton boys telling a ghost story.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nobody seems to really pay attention when the party dancers start doin’ their thang. Gladys is particularly oblivious and dives into her sandwich instead. I’m just loving this girl more every second.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It is at this party that I discover how many romantic interests BOTH young ladies have. They have at least two apiece. I don’t remember seeing any notifications about these through Story Progression, but oh well. Time to break it off with all of them. (Sorry, Richard Landgraab.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Seeing Francine cut all her prior commitments loose inspires Caspian to do something he’s been meaning to do for a while.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Yes, for some reason this hasn’t happened yet. Ah well, it’s happening now!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Francine says yes and admires her sparkly, probably-stolen ring amid a flock of oblivious party guests. (I’ve always wished that proposals prompted reactions from surrounding sims, like deaths and birthdays do. Wouldn’t it be cute if everybody started ooing and ahhing and crying and clapping? *sigh*)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This turn of events leaves Richard Landgraab feeling rather bereft, but don’t worry—Gladys is on it.

“Sorry about your breakup, Richard! Here, have some nectar!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The handsome bachelor, Nile, is having problems of his own. This party dancer expressed attraction for him as soon as she walked in, and she spends much of the night following Nile around the party trying to flirt with him. At least Nile has the decency to not appreciate her advances (and look terrified when she’s lurking behind him).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hey, no, wait! Ash, it is NOT okay to flirt with the party dancers! What is wrong with you?!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian tries to distract everyone from his family’s foibles by telling a ghost story. Do you think ghost stories told by Evil sims are extra terrifying?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Kindhearted Gladys continues to go around the party trying to make everyone feel better, including this Keaton boy whose heart she had to break earlier.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

She’s even kind enough to flash me a smile as she’s dancing with her future brother-in-law.

And just like that, we’re out of pictures. More parties (and party-like events) to come in the next chapter!

Oh Corrie...why are you making out with your future daughter-in-law's father? Why? Oh well. XD

I love how different the twins are from each other. It's fantastic! Gladys is also gorgeous. The makeover really helped to bring her natural beauty forward and she's such an adorable sim. I love her.

I'm excited to see who's going to be heir though to be honest, I'm attached to all three of the boys! I'm personally rooting for Niles and Caspian to stay in the same household, just to see how they clash. XD

Ten years of dynasties and Chris has had ENOUGH of his good boy rep! Inappropriate sims are some of my favorites though. If you aren't accused of cheating are you even playing TS3?

I love how different they are, too! They're basically complete opposites, which makes playing them really fun. I'm glad you liked Gladys's makeover!

You'll find out in the next couple chapters who the heir is :) I like the idea of keeping Nile and Caspian together, but I may not be able to do so because of household space (and because I can only play so many sims at the same time before I lose my mind). We'll see!

Haha! That's a brilliant explanation for Chris's behavior. I've come to love Inappropriate sims too. Weirdly enough, I avoided them like the plague for a long time, I guess because I thought all they did was run around insulting people. Turns out they're completely unpredictable and tons of fun to play.

Chapter 29 – Swimwear Wedding

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile’s bachelor party lasts a long time. Too long for this party dancer.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Okay, too long for basically everyone. Even the stove and dishwasher appear to have fallen asleep.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Even after the whole family turns in, the party doesn’t end. A couple of guests even make their way into Nile and Gladys’s bedroom for yet another nectar fight.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Understandably, Nile is a little peeved.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Lindy Ursine—who has been revived after her nap on the kitchen floor, apparently—will not be stopped.

“Nectar for everyone! Wheeee!”

The guests don’t all leave until well into the next morning. Nile and Gladys feel well-celebrated, at least. And tired. And probably hungover.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Anyway, it’s time for Rhone to go to prom! He shows up in his lime-green suit at the same time as his girlfriend Karie. This obscures the fact that I totally forgot to have him ask Karie to prom. Which is why Rhone ends up having an incredibly lame prom.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Aside from the fact that he’s voted Prom King, Rhone gets into a total of three fights, gets his foot stepped on, and gets turned down by two different people when he asks them to dance. Poor Rhone. I guess he just forgot that he has a girlfriend. :(

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Life goes on in the Kindle household, despite prom tragedies. Ash and Corrie are both finished with their Lifetime Wishes, so they spend all their time relaxing and whacking each other with pillows.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And when they get a bit Stir Crazy, they go on romantic dates to the bistro.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian’s favorite thing to do is scare his family members. Poor Corrie gets caught off-guard, even when her son is standing literally right in front of her as he prepares to jump out at her.

Caspian: “YAAAH!”
Corrie: “Oh, heavens, Caspian! You have scared me half to death!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When the weekend hits, it’s time for Nile and Gladys to tie the knot. They throw a small wedding party at Old Pier Beach. I quickly realize that this is a bad idea, because all the guests end up swimming instead of participating in wedding festivities…but you know. It’s fine.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Also, something is screwy with the camera, so whenever I zoom in on the lovely couple, the wedding arch disappears.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

These inconveniences aside, Nile and Gladys share a beautiful wedding in front of a beautiful backdrop wearing beautiful, wedding-appropriate outfits. (At least, Gladys is in a wedding-appropriate outfit.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

See, this is why the swimming thing is such a problem. The only people actually watching the ceremony are the Kindles, and not our Kindles—just Marcelo and Seraphina’s clan. (The gray-haired lady is a newly-aged-up Seraphina, and she’s standing between her two sons, Trinity and Tory. Margo is the girl with the dark hair hiding behind the wedding arch.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In any case, Nile and Gladys are now happily married. Congratulations to the newest Mr. and Mrs. Kindle!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As the ceremony winds down and the dancing begins, Caspian and Francine are found conspiring together up by the beach chairs.

Caspian: “Hey, look, the wedding arch is unattended! We should pull a prank or something! Ha ha!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“...Emphasis on or something.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Why, Caspian, you sly, romantic rascal! Francine is totally on board with his spontaneous idea, and quickly runs off to change out of her swimsuit.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

How convenient that Francine’s formalwear is white! She and Caspian meet up under the wedding arch. The few guests that aren’t swimming or dancing turn to wonder at what’s going on.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Hey, everybody! Get your butts out of the water and COME WATCH ME GET MARRIED!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In the end, Francine and Caspian get a slightly bigger audience than Nile and Gladys did (and we can pretend the guests in the water are watching from afar).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

These two have successfully hijacked one of Nile and Gladys's events for a SECOND time. Congrats, guys!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At times, it seems as though Caspian and Francine are actually the more affectionate and romantic of the two couples. Or maybe it’s just that Francine is so photogenic.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Awww. Love brings out the best in Evil sims. Jeez, how many pictures of these two do I have?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Okay, last one. In the next chapter…can you believe it? It’s time to make the leap to the next town!

Chapter 30 – To The Desert!

As we wrap things up here in the lovely land of Sunset Valley, there is one main item on our agenda: choosing the heir. Let’s admire all three options in their finery, yeah?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

...Right, so that’s who we have to choose from. This is going to be a difficult choice.

Actually, full disclosure—I kind of chose the heir a long time ago, when the twins were still toddlers. At least, I had an idea of who I would pick. That didn’t end up changing. The heir set to carry on the Kindle family legacy is...Nile! Congrats, young man, congrats.

I chose Nile for several reasons: because he has Blaise’s hair, because he’s Insane, because he’s adorable, and because he’s with Gladys. I was very tempted to change my mind and go with Caspian near the end, because I’m also a big fan of Francine, but I realized that Caspian and Francine were in many ways very similar to Ash and Corrie, at least in terms of their relationship. I decided to go with the less “obvious” choice and let Nile have a chance to shine.

So there’s that! Next item on the list: get Karie to join the family before we move towns. (I have to make use of cheats here, since she and Rhone both still have a couple days left as teenagers and I’m in a hurry to get out of here.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rhone still asks Karie to move in as a courtesy before I do the dirty deed and move her in by force. Karie is only too happy to leave her parents before she’s technically old enough. I think she’s still mad at her dad for making out with her future mother-in-law last chapter. In any case, welcome to the family, Karie!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Here’s Karie after a bit of a makeover—not much of one, because she’s already very glamorous in her own way. Karie is Neurotic, just like Rhone; she’s also Easily Impressed, a Coward, and a Virtuoso. Her favorite things are kids music, falafel, and the color violet.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The last day or so in Sunset Valley is spent hanging out together as a family of eight. We have a lot of artists and musicians in the family right now, so everybody pretty much clumps together in the art studio. (We also have a lot of non-artists who like to observe the artists, and one non-artist who likes to sneak up on a certain artist to scare the daylights out of her.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The final step in preparing to move is a hard one: saying goodbye to the family members being left behind. Ash and Corrie cross town to bid farewell to Seraphina and Marcelo.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And I say goodbye along with them. I’m really going to miss those two—Seraphina in particular. (I will say, though, that I’m not going to miss Marcelo and Corrie making out every time they see each other. Thankfully, that doesn’t happen this time.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

That done, Ash and Corrie head back to their house for the last time, and I realize that I somehow managed to dress these two exactly the same. Whoopsie-doodle.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And with that…the Kindles’ time in Sunset Valley has come to a close. This town has treated them well, given them lots of friends and enemies (mostly friends), and blessed them with innumerable adventures and memories. It’s time to move on to a new part of the world and start fresh!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Farewell, Sunset Valley.

I feel like this ought to be the end of a chapter…but surprise, it’s a short flight to the next town.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Welcome to Lucky Palms! I’ve never played in this town before, so I’m very excited to try it out. I also think it’s the perfect town for an heir and heiress that both have the Lucky trait. :)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The Kindles move into this pre-built house on the edge of town. Ash’s sold paintings have given us enough funds to buy one of the more expensive houses, thank goodness. We’re going to need the space!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Here’s the main floor of “Symphony on the Cube”. Much of the main floor remains unchanged, but I expanded the kitchen and renovated the garage into a nursery and two additional bedrooms. I also recolored a couple of furniture items that were colored, um, rather badly, in my opinion. And took down the FOUR HOT PINK AND PURPLE PAINTINGS that someone decided to put on the living room wall. Can someone please explain that one to me?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And here’s the upper floor. This didn’t need any renovations.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash sets foot in his new house and does the first thing he always does, no matter where he is or what’s happening: he pulls out his guitar and starts playing. Gotta test out those acoustics, you know?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The rest of the family settles comfortably into their new home. Caspian and Francine autonomously work out together in front of the (rather tiny) TV.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian: “Teehee, I can see your armpit!”
Francine: “Ugh, could you BE less mature?”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian evidently takes this comment to heart. Workout done, he puts in a call to the Lucky Palms real estate office. He decides that it’s time for him and Francine to move out and find their own place.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

They end up moving to a little house right across the street, which is convenient. But as it turns out, having them so close by also makes me strongly reconsider having them move at all. But more on that at a later date. For now, at least, let’s wish Caspian and Francine a happy move. *unenthusiastic applause*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The remaining family enjoys their first dinner in the new house—some nice, hot Stu Surprise whipped up by Nile, who has become quite an accomplished cook.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This house is already causing some routing issues. Nobody can get to the kitchen sink to wash dishes no matter which countertop I stick it in, so everybody ends up clogging up the downstairs bathroom to use that sink. There also are some issues with the outdoor part of the lot—my sims are having to walk all the way around the outside of the house to get to certain parts of the lot, and the like. It’s rather frustrating. At least everyone is showing a certain amount of responsibility and helpfulness in trying to clean up after dinner?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After the meal, a couple of friendly neighbors stop by to welcome the family to Lucky Palms. Naturally, Corrie accepts their welcome in the only way she knows how. *sigh*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Thank goodness for Gladys and her common sense.

“I know mothers-in-law are supposed to be difficult, but you—you are something else!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Now that Karie and Rhone live in the same house (a very rare privilege for teenagers in love), they spend almost all their spare time together. Karie has really taken to the piano, and Rhone has really taken to watching her play. ;)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The next day is the teens’ first day at this high school, and their last day at any high school. (Karie, pull your skirt down! Sorry, everyone.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

With the younger ones at school and most of the other adults braving their first days of work, Nile and Gladys start working on the next generation. It’s about time. Let’s hope they get lucky!
