Relic consumable?

I used the Balampalsoh Chaos Relic and now it's gone. Is that one a consumable? Use once and that's it, or is there a glitch in my game?

Generally they do break with the longest I have kept one has been three uses. 

There is a version that is unbreakable but those are rare.  I have only ever gotten 1 or 2 of the unbreakable ones.  But the ones you assemble are normally breakable.

So the relics I fuse together break? Or just the crystals inside them? Because the whole thing vanished after 1 use. It had a rare crystal in it, if that makes a difference.

The entire thing poofs when it breaks.  If I want to use the relic, I work to have at least two in hand so when the first one breaks, I still have another. Most times I am collecting for a challenge goal so don't plan on using it, but not always.
