Inserting LN Clubs into Sunset Valley
« on: January 17, 2011, 01:11:22 PM »
I was wondering if there was a way to put the Late Night clubs into Sunset Valley. They are all sized very oddly. (ex. 42*36), and no lots of that size exist in either SV or in the World Editor. I need these for my Dynasty and Challenges.

There are a few threads addressing this issue.  See http://www.carls-sims-3-forum.com/index.php/topic,2981.0.html for a screen shot of how Pam added clubs.

Or, you could download Naga's Sunset Valley 2.0. http://www.carls-sims-3-forum.com/index.php/topic,3159.0.html

n8thegr8 would not be able to use it for challenges and dynasty though.  Naga's town can't be used for "official" Sim business.  I believe it is in the first post that it says it's not challenged approved.  That was my first thought too when I saw this topic, I was going to recommend Naga's town.  :)

I've always wondered why it's not allowed for the challenges. Either way, are people allowed to use Edit Town in challenges at all?

Yes. It is stated in the General Rules that the LN Building may be put into the town. This is right under where the Rules state that you may add the Book Corral to the town library. Anyhow, I figured out the way to insert the building. For future reference or others reading this thread: You have to set the lot type to whatever the type us.

I have a theory, although it's just as likely that the thought process varies from it radically:

When you start a new game, it generates a fresh version of the town in question.  When it does this, the game "decides" certain things:  who's going to be the stylist, consignment specialist, etc.  Also, as the game progresses (not that your version has progressed much at all), things tend to happen.  For example, I've had 2 sims in two separate games in Bridgeport.  In one version, Elvira Slayer and Vladimir Schlick had a mutual romantic interest and in the other they didn't.  My theory is that, in order for it to be fair, each challenge town has to have the same random chances of things happening.

But...

I've been wondering how well this concept would be received:  creating town specific late night lots to submit for approval so that they could be used in challenges.

Not that there's anything wrong with your version of Sunset Valley, Naga.

I love the way you put everything in NAGA, but one personal opinion I have, and I guess it's more of a prejudice,  I hate seeing the high rise buildings mixed in with the nice homes and smaller business area buildings. However, you certainly got my attention and my creative juices running so I'm trying to keep the tone of the town and yet put in all the venues.  Sometimes that means building a second building on a lot and changing the title of the place so the challenges can be accomplished.  Forinstance, that fusion lounge from LN that sprawls all over the place and requires a huge lot yet only has a small depth to it.  ANNOYING!  And what's up with a garage on a foundation?  You can't drive a car up a foundation.  So I removed the garage entirely and put in some parking spots and am building a poolside lounge on the same lot.  Sort of made sense to me.  By the way, can anyone tell me what a "fusion lounge" is anyway?  It just looks like another bar to me with bright colors.

Pam's idea of putting them all on Pinochle Point is sort of ok too but again I have issues with a building not having a road by it for access.   I do like the fact all the high rises are there in just one place.  Kind of gives the idea that, oops, the town is growing and becoming a city, without changing the tone of the main town itself.  For me, I'd simply modify some of the buildings and use fewer of them so the challenges could be accomplished but in a smaller area.  Like the multi-purpose buildings you find in BP.

I also don't like the fact we can't use things like 2.0 for challenges but I do understand there has to be a more or less level playing field for everyone.

Well, I do understand some people think that using buildings may remove the "town" feel of it, after all that is one of the reasons I got a new Local Watering Hole. There should be no problem with the apartment buildings, because they are just as tall as the Business building. Yes, the Disco Club can be remade into something more portable, and maybe the Vampire Lounge too, since they are both buildings where the party is actually underground, but then it would leave Aquarius as the only tall building in the neighborhood, and that would be really weird.

Worry not, for I already have a few ideas and will most likely upgrade many things in 2.0 (then 3.0), including removing the buildings and making something else into the clubs, when the next expansion comes (hopefully with even more lots to add, such as a Pet Shop), albeit that may take a while, with Medieval coming right up, which may have driven EA's attention off of another expansion a little.

@Naga:
I think I have it.  I used the Pinochle Point area  to place most, but not all of the high rise buildings.  There were some I just didn't want to fool around with yet, like the Prosper Room and Aquarius so they are there.  I found the sports bar to be terrible.  Really, has no one ever been IN a sports bar?  I'm thinking banks of tv's in different areas for different sports, and maybe even a secret, hidden room or two for those not so legal poker games and for bookies to hang out in.  So I'm going to try to design my own sports bar using the Red Rendevous building.  It has four floors, (one underground), that would do nicely I think.  One floor dedicated to sports like football, basketball, etc., one for racing cars/horses, (not that we currently have horses), one for boxing/wrestling, and the lower level can be that "hidden" room, ( have to use triggers for a hidden door), for those who like to play cards.  I so miss the card tables and such we had in Sims 2.

So here's what I did based on your excellent model!  I used a smaller lot for Plumbob Backlot, (right side near the top of Pinochle Point),  hmmm, maybe I should just take a screenie and let it speak for me.  So far I have all the buildings installed except for the Vampire Lounge and I won't install that until I'm ready to try the mixologist thing.  Personal prejudice re: vampires.

Going clockwise: top is the junkyard, then the barely visible building is the sports lounge, (used to be Red Rendevous hangout), Aquarius, Brightmore, Fusion, Prosper, Plum Bob, Waylon's, which has two buildings and I'll use both of them.  The beach screenie shows the Dance Club which I'm beautifying, (it's REALLY ugly otherwise), with the advice of a twenty something who goes to such things, and next to it is a building called a dive bar that I downloaded and not sure who built it but no way is this place a dive!  It's beautiful and needs nothing more to make it perfect.  I've also placed a hangout close to the place the thieves work at, (can't remember the name, something Citizens Warehouse), and across from or really close to the hospital.  I'll fix it up a bit.  The beach front that used to have the Ursine and other houses now is going to be commercial use.  I have the consignment store, Bell Tavern, (who made that?  Danefaith?), two temporarily empty lots then a spa/tatoo parlor and behind that a tiny laundromat one of our gang built.  I need a gas station and/or recharging station and am thinking a beach front shop with surfing items etc. in it would be cool.  (I get the T-Mobile and Dr. Pepper freebies for some of these items).  I have shifted quite a few lots around but so far I'm liking what I'm doing though advice/opinions is always welcome.

Joria, the thing is that it's not just placing all the lots and making each of them the "best", but they must be sorted out like a town/city, whereas having buildings placed according to reality's commerce and residential areas. I also noticed that you removed a few houses and households by the second picture; which is something I tried to avoid in 2.0 because some people may like those. With all due respect, placing all the buildings in a semi-isolated area doesn't make the neighborhood go keep the "small town" feeling either.

If you want to help - and I do need help - build lots (or steal some nice ones from the other neighborhoods and upgrade them, like I did to the Local Watering Hole) to replace the tall rise buildings and share them over the guide's Swap Shop, so that I can include it in 2.0, giving the proper credits.

Well, you're right.  Clumping the high rises together outside of the town proper doesn't really do anything for it.   Putting the high rises there were because of two things, in this order, 1. I was feeling lazy, didn't want to build or remodel  and 2. I wanted to see if it could be done.  So now I know it can be done if someone really wants those high rises there, curiosity satisfied I can move on.   Anyway, anyone wanting to know if it can be done can now see, yes it can.

I didn't remove the households and houses.  I just moved them intact to an empty lot as a temporary measure and will probably move them back when I'm done fooling around.

I am trying to make it like a real town like the one I live in, and eventually it will be that way.  Commercial buildings in commercial areas etc. as you suggested.  I can thank my dh who worked as a city planner for awhile for that.  This practice I just did was for my curiosity, and no way reality or permanent.

Eventually, Pinochle Point will either be totally suburban or totally upper middle class.  Just homes.  I don't intend this remake to be for the swap shop.  It's just for my own pleasure.  Sure, I will share the remodeled places, but not the entire town.  That's your job! lol    It's kind of my holding zone for the construction and remodeling I like to do.
