Bridgeport - it takes hours to get from A to B
« on: February 11, 2011, 07:04:05 AM »
I've searched here and on thesims3.com and I can't seem to find anyone else complaining.  But I cannot believe how long it is taking for our Sims to move around in Bridgeport.  They get from A to B reasonably quickly by car, but in rabbit holes everything seems to come to a halt.

Don't blame my computer  ;D
It's a desktop iMac24 with a 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 Gb of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM [whatever all that means] backed up by a ATI RadeonHD2600 graphics card with 256 Mb of VRAM.

So ...
Vicky Beckmann left the Prosper Room at closing time.  It took her 1.5 hours to reach the curb  ???
Dave Beckmann left work at the Stadium for a drink at the Sports Bar, less than 4 blocks away ... 2 hours+  ???
I think the worst one was leaving a Club a few days ago ... it took Vicky 4.5 hours to get home  ???

Am I the only one having this problem?  Is it just a 'rabbit hole' problem?  The only way we find the game playable is to use testingcheatsenabled and keep teleporting them between locations.

No, of course you're not the only one having Bridgeport issues and it has nothing to do with your computer. Travel times in Bridgeport are crazy long. That's just the way it is. In Sunset Valley and other towns, you can have your Sims tied up in some activity when the work car arrives, and usually still get to work on time after you cancel their current cue. But, in Bridgeport, if your Sim lives in a high-rise, you can throw that thinking right out the window. Forget it. So, I shifted my thinking and my Sims were outside their apartment building waiting by the curb when the work car showed up.

Thanks, Metro ... I feel much better for that.  I was just confused that after [honestly] a couple of hours searching forums, I failed to find anyone else commenting on the issue.

I actually click on the workplace and select "Work" as soon as the message "Car arrives in 1 hour" pops up, so that they have 2 hours to get there.  Sometimes that isn't even enough!!  ;D

Oh, well ... it's only a game.

Ah, that makes sense! Normally I don't bother with looking at the time when I'm doing things, but I couldn't figure out how my sim would sometimes end the day with her career bar in the red, and she would go to work. That makes sense though if I had her doing something when the car showed up, like showering, and let her finish before she took the car.

Yes, between waiting for the elevator and riding the subway, despite the fact that many sims are picked up in a limo to begin with, it takes several hours to go from a dance club to my sim's high rise penthouse...and it's on the same side of town.  I am seriously considering deleting all the subways via edit town, just to eliminate half the problem.

And who gets out of a limo to ride the subway, anyways?   :-\

A seriously disturbed programmer at EA?  ;D

The time delays remove almost every sense of reality from Bridgeport.

Our 5* couple only survive with us using testingcheats to keep them going ... a bit like some real-world celebrities who only survive by cheating through the use of 'certain substances'  ;)

Quoting myself from my dynasty story set in Bridgeport.

"The subway system SUCKS!  I hate it, I moved Romeo in so I could steal his Vaguester, that's how much I hate it.  It's awesome for long distance travel, don't get me wrong, but sims auto use it to get down the block if they don't have a car, and it takes the same amount of time to cross the town as to cross a block.  Which means sims could jog there much faster!  Which is what I did during my first failed attempt before meeting Romeo Rake."

It's mentioned, just most don't play in Bridgeport, but believe me, you are not alone in thinking the public transport there is super crummy

Even if you live next to the subway, it will still take you there via taxi which adds an hour already. An update for this is desperately needed.

So...what would happen if you went into edit town and deleted all the subways?

Your problem should be solved. Theoretically, as long as there is a road to drive/bike/walk on your sims should get there with no problems. Just look at places without subways.;)

The teleporter pad is a life saver, being able to tele across town, and then use your cell to tele home without having to use elevators has saved me alot of aggravation, I strongly recommend it to anyone playing in Bridgeport especially.

Of course, you could leave one so your musically inclined sims could play for tips, too.  They probably wouldn't get on the subway if there was nowhere to travel to!

I have noticed that if you live in "the hills" area across the river, the subway does seem to save a little bit of time, especially when going to The Grind or to the hospital...both of which are at the extreme opposite ends of the city.

In which case, I would save those subways and get rid of the rest of them.
