Is it just me? (Maids)
« on: April 01, 2011, 01:05:22 PM »
My sims have quite a large "apartment" in Bridgeport (3 storeys and 2 basements), so I can understand that the maid might not be able to clean everything in one day. However, whenever the maid leaves at like 2pm (after arriving at 10ish I think) the house is always still a mess. She never  cleans the bathrooms, she never makes the beds, she never does the laundry. The balcony dining room is always full of dirty plates and plasma cartons. I've had to fire several maids because of this and have even resorted to resetting my current maids traits to Neat, Perfectionist, Workaholic, etc. She still barely does anything. To add insult to injury my nectar is the first thing she cleans away after my sim has set it out for her daughters to drink before they leave for work.  :(

Does anyone else have this extremely irritating problem?

Maids are annoying sometimes, especially when they don't do their job, but eat ice cream and watch TV.
Many people have had the same problem as yours, but I've never had one, surprisingly enough. Probably because I try to avoid hiring maids. Have one of your Sims be Neat, and click on the ground and choose the 'Clean the House' option (or something like that, with the trait's icon). The Sim will automatically clean all the mess in your house, even the ones you cannot see. ;) And of course, it's free. I prefer that way, rather than having to pay 125 simoleons for a maid. No, thanks.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

And if you have it available, add perfectionist to neat, and then every time you take your eyes off them that Sim will be off to tidy up, however they too will pick up books you left out for display, and I imagine they might clean up your nectarty, but I haven't installed WA yet so I don't know that for sure.

Have you tried locking your nectarty door(s)?  I don't play with maids, so I don't know it will work, but it's a thought at least.

It's served in the lounge so my sims don't have to spend an hour getting the elevator down to the basement, they teleport to work and the teleporter is also on the same floor.
I did have a neat perfectionist sim, but I moved my sim out. I hired a maid so my sims  would have more free time and wouldn't need to clean.

I don't often use maids.  Even when your sims aren't in an apartment, they don't do a very good job.  This is why I always like to have a sim with the neat trait.  Most of the time I select their traits randomly, but I will choose "Neat" at least once a generation.  That way, I don't need a maid.

Yeah I only use Maids when I have a rich family that doesn't need money, my houses stay cleaner if I am controlling the cleaning than a Butler or a Maid who almost make twice as much mess.

I did have a Butler too, but the first one was electrocuted by the broken telepad and I fired the second one because she kept making food without being asked to, which would mess up everyone's action queues even if they'd already eaten leftovers. D:

Yeah I had a very similar cycle of butlers as well! One got electorcuted whilst trying to fix the teleporter, the only thing she ever bothered to fix and she died! Then all my sims got fat because of the new one and making food every three hours!

This is the mess made by eight sims in about three hours... Only some ever clean thei rplates the others expect the butler to do it, like that's going to happen?

Are your Sims celebrities by any chance?  I found that maids wouldn't do any cleaning because they were always enthralled by my family of celebrities.  The maid would squeal, take pictures, and ask for autographs instead of cleaning.

Yeah but she liked the Ice Creams as well. The Butler didn't care and actually started fights with my family and then spent more time doing the Laundry and cooking than anything else.  :-\

I downloaded a mod from (Edit-Hosfac) that made it so my butler will never cook, between them, the butler and maid keep the house relatively clean. However I still have to keep them away from the nectar trays! xD

Oops! Well don't I look a fool! I've read them now, sorry everyone!

I thought I'd figured out a solution to the nectar problem, I stored the tray on the floor in an unroutable space between two French chests and behind the TV. While this did indeed stop the maid and Butler from cleaning up the nectar, it didn't stop them each taking a glass and drinking it! D:<
I've stored the trays in my museum for now, the doors are locked as no mess is ever made in there.

On a side note: Does anybody know if, after being served, the nectar will go off after a while if left out?

Pam, i have not installed LN yet. I've been using my sister's friends vanilla game, so I am going to get my own, along with the EP's in the future. Thank you for noting that. Remind me not to hire maids in celebrity houses.

A bit off topic but my maid (it's a dude actually :P) stopped doing the laundry since I've got myself a hamper! I located it near the laundry machine and the dryer. He just washes the dirty dishes and goes home. Even if the hamper is full he doesn't care. When my Sim left the clothes on the floor he did his job. Hampers seem to spoil that slacking idiot.
