Repairman won't do his job!
« on: January 04, 2010, 03:09:06 PM »
So I just remembered an additional problem I have with my sims 3 game (see http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=427.0 for my other problem). In my latest (and about 4th) legacy (with the family trait adventurer I might add lol) I made a female sim and married Connor Frio. He brought along his laptop (YES!) but one day it inevitably broke. So I placed it on a table, clicked it, and hired a repairman (my handiness was too low at the time to attempt to fix it). About an hour later, a repair person came but stood outside the door for the longest time, not doing anything. I saved, since it was about time to get off, and she was still standing there just doing nothing. I've tried talking to her, placing the table outside, yet she does nothing to fix the computer. There's no option to invite her inside, but in the past repairpeople have just walked into the house and known what to fix. Any thoughts?

The only thing that comes to mind is are you sure the laptop is facing the right way? If you're sitting in a chair facing a desk, the laptop has to be with its longest side facing you. If the longest side is facing the other way, I'm pretty sure a Sim won't be able to open it.

Well when I was building my (first) house for the family, I put in the table and 4 chairs. However I took one chair away, and put the laptop on the side of the table that had no chair. However, I didn't realize that there was a longer side of the computer, I'll check that now. Thanks.

If the laptop is on the end of a table with no chair, then that's obviously your problem — no place to sit.

Oh...my...gosh. I feel like the biggest moron ever. I guess when I was building the house, I thought that a chair would block it, and that you had to repair the computer standing up. Well, thanks for pointing out the obvious lol otherwise I would've never figured that one out.

Hey, no problem. Everyone makes mistakes. The key is do we learn from these mistakes? I'm here to help with that. So, in order for you to best learn from your mistake I'm asking you (nicely) to play Sims 3 while standing until the release of Sims 4.

Yeah, thanks again for pointing that out. And don't worry, I've been "lurking" the forums long enough to know a little bit about the personalities of the moderators and admins, including yourself. It's one of the reasons I joined because I have been a part of forums where the admins are really mean.

I admit I can be pretty sarcastic sometimes. And that doesn't always translate well to the internet. But, the challenge is I don't want to have to resort to constantly using smileys for people to know if I'm joking or not. That's why I often go so over the top. It's just my style. I really like to keep things light and fun. Hey, it's a computer game after all, right?

EDIT: Oops, where are my manners? Welcome to the forum.

Trust me, I know what you mean about the sarcasm. My friends say I'm extremely sarcastic and unfortunately you can't exactly hint at being sarcastic without the other person hearing you. And thanks for the welcome. I definitely see myself commenting a lot more and participating in the challenge tournament. Sounds fun!

This may or may not be the funniest thing I've ever heard you say.

Another thing that I discovered as a possible problem...  if the front door is locked, the repairman can't get into the house.  I've locked the doors to the house when having outdoor parties and forgot to unlock them, which caused a problem for invited guests and such.

That's a good tip too, Pam. Although jmz95 did mention putting the desk outside one time as a possible solution.

Okay, sorry I forgot to post what eventually happened. After realizing my idiotic mistake, I went to the game, added a fourth chair in front of the laptop, and the repairwoman almost immediately came in and fixed it. So there you go. And yeah Pam, I made sure the front door was "unlocked" but yeah, again, I made a really stupid mistake but hey, I learned from it!
