For a few free extra simoleans if you are really streched for cash, go into furnish mode. Buy a bookshelf. Then sell it. I'm not sure if it works multiple times at once, but then go back to your sims inventory, and there will be a lot of books there. You can sell them for a few simoleans, up to about 15 or 20 I think. Handy if you are scrimping.
