Stocking Ponds?
« on: January 16, 2010, 10:57:34 AM »
I know that you have to have 10 fish to stock a pond but does that mean you can only catch those fish? Will their be unlimited fish or not? (to be caught)

Once you stock your pond, you can only catch whatever species you have stocked it with.  Also, you will only be able to catch the number of fish that you stocked your pond with.  The only way to get unlimited and a variety of fish is to use the buydebug cheat and then put the spawners into your pond.

Are you sure? I always thought that it was unlimited, but unless you have done some research, I stand corrected!

I would also like to know if you've actually checked this.

Nothing personal really, but if you could only catch as much fish as you've planted in that pond, what would be the purpose of stocking a pond at all? Fish never spoil in one's inventory, so why couldn't you just have them there instead? However, I believe I read somewhere that if you catch enough fish in one place it will become harder and harder to catch more unless you allow the fish to recover. Is it that effect you're referring to?

I've always thought that the reason you would need 10 was that there should be enough fish for their reproduction to kick in.

I was wondering the same thing after Red made her comment.

I have conducted extensive research on this with my legacy family as I was trying to make it easier for my generations to get their fishing done early on.  I see stocking the pond as beneficial in this way.

Sorry but I don't think I understand what you're saying. Beneficial in what way?

Beneficial for my generations to be able to fish right there at the house in my pond instead of running all over SV to try to catch the different varieties of fish.

But if you can only catch as much as you've stocked it with, it would still be useless, wouldn't it?

In my game,  i used the "stock fish" option, and the fish i put in were unlimited when fishing them up.  But i do think it's bugged....because now the regular fish that were once in my pond (before using the stock fish option) are not there.  Also I cannot get the "stock fish" option twice to add anymore kinds of fish.

I even deleted the pond and made a new pond.  But it did not change the first stocking of fish I did...so now I'm stuck with the 3 kinds of fish I stocked.

If this really is a bug, which I'm sure it is, hopefully EA is working on it to fix it in the next patch.

I got a questions too.
Can I stock deathfish? and..
Does the pond in your lot/home ever become active? (where fishes are jumping so you could catch more fishes)

Can I stock deathfish?

That's the type I was going to stock! :)
I'm still a bit confused to whether you can stock it and get unlimited catches or whether you need to keep topping the pond up with fish?

Unfortunately, no. For some reason ponds you built yourself on your home lot will never be "active".

Awh that is stupid! What is the point of stocking if you don't get unlimited catch?
And if it doesn't become active that means it will take a while for my sim to catch fishes - do you think it will be active if I use the "buydebug" ?
