Family Inventory Problem
« on: January 27, 2010, 06:00:28 AM »
Hello fellow simsers.....

I am having problems with my family inventory. Since moving my family into a new home, trying to use the family inventory has been very frustrating. I was in the process of taking items out of each family member's personal inventory and placing it on the lot/house grounds to transfer them to the family inventory in Buy mode. This process was moving smoothly until I was in the process of moving multiple seeds. Now, there is a "glitch" and I can not add or move or take anything out of the inventory. I have one "Body Sculptor" in my inventory and placed it on my lot, but the inventory is still showing that it is still in there. On top of that, for some odd reason, the game decided to move all of my books out of the bookcases and place them in my family inventory. I select one of the books and place it on the floor/ground and then a blue hand appears with the red circle with a slash through it and I can not make it go away or have any more control unless I go to the top right corner of my screen and hit the "pause" icon, which then it takes me back to "Live" mode again. I have restarted my game many times....I have researched online, and I am just not finding any help or solutions, only reading other posts about very frustrated players having similar issues.

Any help or suggestions out there?  Also, is it possible to go into the file somewhere and start my game again at a point before this "glitch" happened? I know I will lose all progress and etc....but, if I have to do it in order to fix this annoying problem, then I will just have to do it. Thanks for any help or advise.....

Interesting. Another seeds in Inventory problem. Several challenge players were having fishing difficulties and removing seeds (and a Death Flower) seemed to be the solution.

Yeah, I was thinking it must be those bugged special seeds again. :(

Also, is it possible to go into the file somewhere and start my game again at a point before this "glitch" happened?

You can go back to the previous save. If you have saved more than once after this happened then nothing can be done about it I'm afraid. Here's how you recover the previous savegame:

I have a small problem with my family inventory on one of my games. I had a couple of tombstones on my lot and I wanted to move them but the ghosts were out, so I figured I would just do the moveobjects on cheat. I went to buy mode and did it then put the tombstones in my family inventory (don't ask why, I have no idea!) and now I can't put them down! I've tried clicking, clicking and dragging, nothing works! Any ideas?

Try tapping the Escape key.  If that doesn't work, you'll have to exit the game.  Sometimes you can still click on the controls even if you have something on your cursor.  If you can't exit the normal way, you'll have to exit via the Task Manager.  You'll end up dumping the game without saving, but when you re-launch the game, you should be ok with your cursor.

sorry I should have specified. They are in my inventory and I can't get them out. I try to click on them to put them down and it won't do anything. It's like they are stuck in my inventory. I might try sell all but I will lose them :(

Ok, I see.  Sorry!  It probably got glitched because you moved them while they were in use by the ghosts.  I would suggest that you quit the game without saving and then start again from your last save point before this happened.  If you've already saved one time, you can retrieve your saved game prior to that by following the instructions in this thread:

Pam, I am having the same problems with going to my family inventory and clicking on something to take out, then clicking where I want the item.  The hand keeps folded closed like the item is still in it and I have to click it a couple times before I can move the cursor away without the  item, but then I have the circle with the slash through it and can not get anything else out of inventory.  I went back to live mode several times while this was happening hoping to break it free, but when I went back to inventory, still the same thing.  I then went back to live mode and tried to get something from my personal inventory and could not click on anything at all.  I have tried this in several saved games to see if it was a corrupted game file and same thing happens.  I am saving my game files and then un-installing everything and re-installing all.  Hope this fixes this glitch.

I've actually had it happen, too.  Sometimes if I click on Live Mode, then Buy Mode (or vice versa), it will free up the hand.  But not always.  This has got to be a glitch and I hope EA has a patch for it soon.  There was an update released yesterday or today, but I didn't see that it addresses this particular issue.

When this happens to me (often happens with the tent) I go into town view then back again, and often it is fixed  :)

I read somebody's solution on the official Sims 3 forum(I'll say it now...boy is that place a mess!)that they hit F3, then F4, thus switching between Buy Mode and Build Mode, and it freed the hand. It obviously didn't work for everyone, but I saw at least one person for which it did work.

Just throwing that out there. :)

One time when an uncontrolled ghost got pregnant and I told the other parent "bring X to hospital" that ghost never came back since it became the morning! The urn I had of that ghost also wouldn't vanish since it was in use, so I resolved it by moveobjects on. But I still wonder if that ghost sim is still in the hospital and never can get out......spooky!

This is happening to me now too.  I moved my family and now just about everything is stuck in family inventory.  I've tried switching views, exiting to the main menu and returning, exiting the game and returning, nothing seems to work.  The item stays in inventory (but sometimes is also visible on the lot), the hand stays closed, and the dollar amount to sell the item for stays visible.

I'm tempted to just sell all and not worry about it, but besides the prohibitive cost of replacing all those items (not to mention the time it would take to redesign them all!) I have a lot of relics that I don't want to lose.

Any ideas?

This just happened to me, though I was able to fix it by going exiting the game (without saving) and going back into it. This is why I got so frustrated one night because I had reset it so many times and the one time I got it right my Sims did something I didn't them to do so I had to reset yet again! After a few times of quitting then re-entering the game, you should have your problems fixed. What I had been trying to do was re-make a different basement so I took out all the stuff and put it in the family inventory because that just seemed logical. I fixed it the way I wanted it, but whenever I grabbed something I could put it down somewhere and yet he hand cursor for my mouse was still clutched in a fist like it was still holding that item with the price still visible (thus sounding just like your problem) on the family inventory "Sell All" button. That frustrated me beyond belief so I went to live mode (where the fist was still clutched) and quit without saving. The next time I think the same thing happened so I tried again, and eventually I realized it's because if you have a certain amount of stuff in your inventory it will start this, because I only saved one thing in there the last time and then I replaced everything else, and that one thing came out just fine. :/ Maybe that should help.
