Beware of haunted furniture
« on: January 31, 2010, 08:20:34 AM »
Okay, this is just too funny/awesome. I moved my Sims into the now-vacant Alto mansion, and I found something interesting. There's this one chair in the kitchen that struck me as odd, then it hit me what was strange about it: it looks ghostly!

It looks even better in the dark:

First things first, sorry if these images are too big, I'll change them to links if so.

I affectionately refer to it as the 'haunted chair.' I know about ghosts, resurrecting Sims as ghosts, and ghosts shaking around pieces of furniture, but this is something entirely new to me.

Maybe it's a poor chair that has passed on to the afterlife... :'(

Can you use the eyedropper tool to replicate it?

I have that same issue with a house. At first I thought it was just a glitch that would go away, but it's there every time I start the game. It's the house on 250 Redwood Parkway. The upstairs bed glows. I removed the lighting in the room, but it still glows.

Hi jestina and welcome!

Have you tried just deleting that bed and placing another one just like it?

Nope I didn't bother with it, it's the bed that comes with that house. I just noticed it because my sims daughter was moved there. I checked on it the next couple of games and it's glowing every time.

LOL! I really like it...I want more haunted furniture. I do recall now, that I saw a glowing coffee table in a vacant house, and wondered to myself what item that was. xD

Enya Gaia is in Egypt right now, so I can't test the eyedropper thing, but I'll get back to you guys when I do.

Oh, I just had a thought...you know when you're in Buy or Build mode, and you mouse over a piece of furniture, and it glows to indicate that's what the cursor is touching? Maybe these pieces of furniture got 'stuck' like that somehow, via some rendering glitch.

This is possible, but wouldn't it go away after you exit the game?

It might not be a glitch but an easter egg. :-\

It's a glitch, albeit an amusing one. I went into Build mode, and used the eyedropper on the chair. I moused over it, then took the cursor away, and the glow disappeared. Furniture glows as a way to highlight it when the eyedropper is used. The same thing is used for clothing in Create A Sim.

So, no more haunted chair. I'll kinda miss it.

So it was stuck on "highlighted" mode?  Weird.  Too bad that wasn't a controllable effect, would make for a nifty haunted house.

Yep, that was it. I was a little let down after the glow went away. OMG, haunted house? That would be awesome. Complete with ghosts and haunted furniture...if highlighted furniture were a controllable thing, as you said. Darn.

You know that ghosts can haunt the houses in Sims 3, right?

Yeah, xD. I've heard a few stories of people moving their Sims into houses that were haunted, unbeknowest to them prior to moving them there. I would love for that to happen to me.

Oh, there's much more to it than that.  If a Sim dies in your house and you leave the grave/urn, you'll have your very own ghost!  You can also have them brought back to where you can control them.  And even further, you can bring them all the way back to life with Ambrosia.  Do a search for ghosts here in the forum and I'm sure you'll find plenty of information!
