I have no idea how to craft one. I tried clicking on the fireplace but the option wasn't there. Any suggestions?

As I recall, you just go to your crafting station and click on 'craft item' and the option to craft a key should come up.

You're absolutely right Gael. But you must have the scrap metal from the village and acid ants from the cave. Good Luck!

Oh my god, it's the crafting table? Then why does it show a picture of a cauldron? Okay, I'll try that. Thanks so much!

Unfortunately, the crafting table has a little cauldron on it too...had me stumped for a while as well...

Thanks! I was ready to report this as a newly broken quest, since I know I completed it before the latest (Aug 2011) patch. I had checked every cooking appliance, even bought a new pot and then tried going to another house to try it.

Now I'll go back and try the craft table.
