Honestly, they really need to make it so we have an option to delete the townies memories, all in one go. I can just about handle my own sims's memories but my laptop will be ready to crash at any time in the future when certain file size gets too huge. ::)

Yeah... actually they should have added an option not to have memories at all. It doesn't add anything new or different to the game and I personally find them really unuseful and annoying, and it obviously will cause some game lagging after a few simweeks. Before installing Generations my game used to load really fast, no longer than 5 minutes... now, if it takes 15 minutes to load I find myself lucky. It's usually taking 20 minutes to load... and I'm playing a new file, only 3 simweeks old. Don't want to think how long it will take when I'm in week 10 or so.

Anyway... changing neighborhoods would delete memories, so maybe that's an option to avoid game lagging from excess of townies' memories.

I went on a quest to try and find out how much space memories was using up on my save files.
I pause the game and saved then spent the day going through town and deleted everyone's memories and saved the game again and compared the folder sizes.
The first save was 243 meg. The second save was 239 meg. So just 4 meg difference.
Now the strange part. While I was paused I done some editing on my house I was wanting to do added a bathroom next to the exercise room and saved again. And just to see what that added I check the new save and it's just 102 meg.
So now I still don't know how much room was saved by deleting memories and I'm confused as to why the file got so much smaller after building the bathroom.

My file sizes are also very weird. First, it was 1GB, then 840 mb after actually adding on a room to the house. O.o

Perhaps it's a sign that we should build more. ;D
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

I'm glad someone else has noticed that happening. At least I know I was imagining things. :)

I usually try to keep my houses kind of small to help keep the save file size down but maybe I've been doing it wrong all this time. Bigger is smaller?  :-\

I'm still wonder if it only saved 4 meg after deleting every ones memories. I figured it would have been much more.

When I deleted all eight of my sims memories I noticed a big, big change. I can't remember the exact figures, though.

How To Delete Memories

How can you clear your sims' memories? I'd like to know so I'll be able to in case I run into memory-related lagging.

Edit: I'm looking to mass delete memories from my game, not delete each sim's memories. That would take too long. What game file would I delete them from?

What you're asking is not possible.  As far as I can tell the only way to get rid of memories is to individually get rid of them in game.

It is possible to do such in-game.  PM me if you are still looking for a method.

I want to know if deleting the active family's memories make a difference to the game file size? It is a lot to delete if it don't decrease the file lol!

The memories do increase the file size considerably. I delete them every night while my sims are asleep. I usually do it weekly for my legacy though, because they hardly ever sleep and then I forget. ;D
