I have read the section on the guide about imaginary friends and making them real. The thing is one of my decadynasty triplet's imaginary friend became real without any use of the chemistry set or collecting a rainbow gem.

It was the day the girls aged up and Erin had arranged for Peony to go to military school. I got the message saying the car would come at 9am in the morning.
A few Sim hours later I checked on Peony and she was pillow fightin with her imaginary friend turned real. There was no message about letting kissy out to look around she just turned real. The other triplets dolls did as the guide said.

Any ideas why this happened.

I've never had an imaginary friend become real without completing the opportunity or giving them the potion. Are you sure it had become real? They grow when the child ages up, and are the size of a teen. Maybe that's what you saw? If not.. then it's really weird  ???

I've seen imaginary friends show up as real in relationship panels.  Plus, one of my teens went to the prom and somehow his brother's imaginary friend was real at the dance and became a romantic interest by the time he left.  I've never turned one into a real Sim and don't even really know how to do it.  I never saw them actually as real with my Sim; just in the relationship panel.

This is Peony pillow fighting with Kissy. Kissy disappeared whenever I clicked on anyone else in the house so I assumed that meant she was an IF.
I didn't look in the relationship panel so do not know what her picture looked like.

Strangely enough when Peony returned from military school and aged up to teen Kissy was a doll.

I'm going to revive this old topic instead of making a new one.

My current game has a teen with an imaginary friend.  She got the opportunity to take a Rainbow gem to the Science Center.  I'd gotten one at the Consignment Store and saved it specifically for this occasion.  The teen took the gem to the Science Center, but nothing happened.  I didn't get any kind of notification, no potion in her inventory, nothing.  The gem is gone.  The opportunity still shows up for her, but when I click on the Science Center, the option to get the potion (or whatever it is) no longer appears.  I'm hoping that it will complete itself in a day or two.  What is the normal procedure for doing this?  Am I on track or experiencing a bug?

I don't really know if I paid money or not.  It's a large household and I sent the teen over there and then continued with the other Sims in the house.  I didn't notice if it took any money out of the household funds.

Pam, did you happen to patch up while the oppurtunity was there?

Perhaps I've misunderstood your problem, but you can make a immaginary friend real by making potions at the chemestry table (came with imaginary friend expansion). At a higher Logic level your sim will be able to create a potion that will make your imaginary friend real, assuming your relationship level with that doll is high enough already.

I've only make a IF real with a rainbow gem once. The other times I use the potion. When your sim click on the IF is the option to make real there?

To add to this (for incase this got forgotten): only the owner of the doll can make the immaginary friend real. So perhaps you had accidentially selected the wrong sim.

If your Sim had the op when you patched up, there is a good possibility it cant be completed due to that glitch.

Thanks everyone.  I think Ricalynn has hit on the problem.  I've been letting the opportunity sit for a long time, since before Showtime came out.  So, I did indeed patch up while the opportunity was active.

I've done everything else right that all of you suggested.  I didn't use the chemistry table because I just haven't been into it that much.  The offer to turn the IF real shows up when the teen clicks on it, but it's grayed out and says she needs a Rainbow gem.  Of course, she's already given it to the Science Center.  My plan was for this teen to marry her IF and move out.  I think I'll cancel the opportunity and see if it comes again.  While waiting, I'll have someone work at the chemistry table.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.  :)

Yeah, I've never known where to find rainbow gems in any of the places, and in a game for fun I had the mom running around with the collection helper, picking up tons of gems and none were the rainbow gem, unless it was the Luminous gem which is kind of rainbow coloured. As the eldest daughter had been doing the chemistry table anyway, she ended up making it. I think it really is the easier way of the two. In that game, which I just deleted the other day as it was becoming boring, all of the children had IF's. Rayne, twins Spirit and Luna, twins Xena and Gabriella, and Spirit and Mystique's(Luna's IF) twins, Zen and Wulf. Funny thing was, Xena and Gabriella were identical at teen, after I'd put the same hair on them, and their IF's were identical in looks. And I kind of had the same thing with Spirit's IF being impressed by Luna's moves at Prom and showing up as a romantic interest in the relationships panel. I had been planning to make him real and have them get together anyway, although his traits weren't that great. Hot-headed was one of them. Another funny thing was that she had a worse time keeping her relationship with mystique, who had clumsy and inappropriate, then Spirit did with Zola. Rayne and Payne had no troubles, they got themselves up to best friends and stayed up there right up until he became real and I had them get together.

Something else that really got me, was the first time I made Zola real, as the game crashed and I had to start quite some way back, is he had red hair, then the second time it was green I think. Same with Mystique, first time it was green, second time it was purple with green tips. What's up with that? Are their looks completely random? Zola and Mystique both basically had the same looks, it was just the hair colour that was different.

I find Rainbow gems at the Consignment Store.

I've only had two invisible friends turn real and they both had blue hair with purple tips and bright turquoise eyes.  Their other features were also identical.
