Lucky Trait and the Martial Arts Tournament / Opportunities
« on: February 12, 2010, 06:30:43 PM »
I'm going to be writing a walkthrough for the Physical Perfection LTW soon and was curious if anyone knew if the Lucky trait had any kind of bearing on sparring match outcome?

It sounds like that would make sense, I could test it out for you as I have Half Term next week, but only if you tell me how it should be tested?  ;)

Thanks for the offer, samoh04, but I'll be creating my character in the next day or two and really don't want to wait for testing. It's not a big deal if he'd have Lucky or not. But, if someone knew if it would have an impact, then I'd do it just to get through the sparring matches a little quicker.

Okay, I might just test it out myself and report back incase you decide not to have Lucky as a trait, It might be usefull for people who want to complete the ranks of Martial Arts.

Here's quote from Carl's Martial Arts skill walkthrough:

Don't Forget Athletics
Athletics and Martial arts go hand in hand. As your Sim trains martial arts, they'll gradually raise Athletics as well. However, meditating can cause athletics to fall behind. Spend some time on the tradmill or weight bench to help the skill keep pace. The Athletics challenge for doing 60 hours of strength training is highly recommended. It will remove the fatigue your Sim experiences when board breaking. Being tougher is helpful overall for winning fights, as well.

----

So, this is another thing I'm wondering about — if I max Athletics, and especially do the Bodybuilder challenge before I even set foot in China, I'm hoping that will also have an impact on sparring outcome. It certainly can't hurt.

That Lifetime Wish doesn't have any sparring requirements.  I'm guessing you'll be sparring just to add something to the story?

Exactly. My main character will be maxing the two skills for the LTW, but also be pursuing additional goals for the story:

*Completing all skill challenges
*Kicking a mummy's butt
*Breaking some space rocks

The last two are areas of the game I haven't explored yet, so it's mainly for my own enjoyment/education.

Lucky is one of my most favorite traits, and I'm pretty sure it has an impact on the outcome of a sparing match.  It most certainly does for chess tournament and sparring matches are so similar that I bet it works the same way.  I did have a Lucky martial artist, he also had maxed athletic skill w/ athletic trait, but he almost never lost a sparring match.  And he always won when he was "feeling lucky".

Thanks, AriaGirl. I just created my character. Traits are: Ambitious, Athletic, Disciplined, Lucky, and Brave. I'm kind of curious if Brave might help with sparring outcome too. I know it's a factor with not being scared of mummies. I'll be curious to see his final sparring record when it's all over.

Another note, which you probably already know, if you want to beat up mummies don't buy any mummy treats.  :)

Brave will also be good for exploring tombs in general.  He won't get scared from bugs in the holes or from getting burned in fire traps.

I think Ambitious should have been replace by Adventerous as that may help in Tomb Exploration and possibly The Mummies.

Tomb exploration and fighting a few mummies will only be a footnote at the end of the story — a very minor component. Ambitious, on the other hand, will greatly add to the lifetime happiness points total and allow my character to purchase rewards earlier.

I do know that my girl that has maxed out her martial arts and athletic skills kicked some serious mummy butt, it was really cute, scared me though, she attacked the mummy first and then he really needed the bandages, but, you might be right, she is only level 2 on the ranks and it seems it is taking her forever, so maybe will switch out one of her traits to lucky, really would like to get further.  Funny how we can find out things on here by just posting our own accomplishments and finding out things we didn't know.
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?
