The 'Best Places to Place new Lots' Thread!
« on: November 20, 2011, 08:23:14 AM »
Well, I had this idea.. You know all those lots that come with new EPs? Such as the Consignment Store and Salon, etc. with Ambitions and the Bars and Clubs with Late Night? And I'm sure those of you that have the EPs remember the hassle that it was of choosing where to place the lots in towns that don't already have them? Well, my idea was that we could devise a list of the best places to place these buildings and new lots to place the buildings on, in each town. I'm hoping that with a bit of help, we can have a list ready with maps of the newly-furnished towns and tutorials for especially tricky things. (E.g: Placing the Film Studio in Sunset Valley) This'll take a while though, but I'm sure we can do it! :)

So, post your ideas! Where in town did you place your bars/clubs, etc? What works best for you?

Ironically, I myself don't have the game available right now because my simming laptop needs a new fan, but when I get a new fan I shall fire up the game and provide the addresses of where I put my lots. :) Please try and keep the 'bulldozing lots and replacing them with these new ones' method that most people use to a minimum, because the idea is that the town itself should be kept, but with these new lots added. Of course, lots like the film studio will probably need to be placed where an old lot was, so there are some exceptions. :)

I'm hoping that sometime soon we can have a growing list of helpful information that will help us all with what is probably one of the most annoying parts of getting a new EP, ever - placing these lots! :P

Sunset Valley

Consignment Store (Ambitions): 9 Sun Song Ave (20x30) - Next to the Frio's Household
Fire Station (Ambitions): 74 Landgraab Ave (30x40) or 99 Landgraab Ave (30x30) - Both near the Jolina Household.
Salon (Ambitions): Can be either 299 Skyborough Boulevard (40x40) or 415 Skyborough Boulevard (40x40) as they are both the same lot size. - Near Christopher Steel's house.
Movie/Film Studio (Late Night): On a new lot at Pinnochle Point, or the Film Studio can replace the Science Centre and the Science Centre will be placed at Pinnochle Point - Your choice!
(Extra note: Take care with placing any buildings at Pinnochle Point if you'd like to fit all the bars and clubs there as well, as it can be quite tricky to fit them all)
Equestrian Centre (Pets): Can be either 299 Skyborough Boulevard (40x40) or 415 Skyborough Boulevard (40x40) as they are both the same lot size. - Near the Hart and Steel households.
Horse Training Centre (Pets): 20 Summer Hill Court (60x60) - Where the Alto mansion stands, just evict the Altos to another house, bulldoze the current lot and replace it with a new lot for the training centre!

In Sunset Valley I always place my Consignment Store down on the empty lot next to the Frio's because it fits there, it may not look completely right but at least it fits. I often put my firestation near Jamie Jolina, the Salon is on a lot near Christopher Steels house but I forget where. I put the Movie Studio where the Science Centre is and make the Science Centre Lot somewhere else from scratch, in my Legacy it was up at those Pinacle Point lots. The dome thing next to the Movie Studio also fits in my opinion because it could be a science film... Lol.

Ooh, I had never thought of placing the film studio where the Science Centre was, that's a brilliant idea! I'll have a look on the wiki and see if I can find the addresses for those other lots and we'll have the start of our list. Thank you, Tom! :D

EDIT: The lot for the Fire Station near Jamie Jolina is either 74 Landgraab Ave (30x40) or 99 Landgraab Ave (30x30) but I'm not sure which one you mean. Does anyone know the lot size of the Fire Station? Google isn't telling me much.. :( I'll put both for now, anyways. :)

It was the one right next to her lot, on the left if you looked at her Lot from the front. Not the one next to the Keatons which is opposite I believe? The Fire Station is narrower than the Lot I mentioned so it leaves a large gap on either side, although I think it reaches the front and the back of the lot when rotated correctly.

I'm guessing it's 99 Landgraab Ave then, because her address is at 91? If it is at that one then it should be able to fit on the 74 as well, because that's bigger. :)

Every time I get a little ho-hum about actually playing I redo a town. I'm always moving lots around, bulldozing houses and placing new size lots and putting community lots where they fit for that town.  Right now I'm building a "horsey" center around the loop where the Landgrabb and Alto mansions once stood. The equestrian center is at the empty lot between the two mansions and I put the training center where the Alto mansion stood. The lot where the Landgrabb home was will be a horse ranch.

I'm also relocating all the families and they get a pet before I place them back into town.

Although I'd rather we could find ways to place lots in towns without bulldozing other buildings, that is still a good place to put them so I'll add that to the list. :) I also don't have Pets yet so I'm rather ill-informed about the new Pets lots lol. Thank you, RunAmok!

The Pet Parks don't get auto-placed, as far as I have found. I think the two Pet Parks are roughly 20/30x40 or something. The Equestrian Centre is either 40x40 or the bigger one for 60x60, that one gets placed automatically in SV apparently, on the Legacy Lot.

There are Pet Parks? Lol, I don't have a clue about these. xD How many are there? Perhaps, if the lot size are small, they could be placed around the beachy areas of SV on newly made lots? I couldn't know, though, as I don't have the EP yet.

Dog park and cat park are both 20 x 30.  The horse ranch/training park was 30 x 40.

I actually prefer to play the petite equestrian center in sunset Valley next to the Hart household.  I always leave my consighnment shop behind the police station.  Jamie's new neighbor is the salon.  My firehouse goes next to the Frios and I make the Bunches see the scrapyard.

Another really good spot for when I'm not playing a challenge file (which is rare these days), I demolish the middle townhouse where the Working Friends live.  Move them into a new house and place the salon there.  Sometimes I get rid of the empty townhouse opposite of the Roomies to put in a laundromat too.   Those three townhouses look at home on pinochle road as much as they do in downtown SV.

Is the Petite Equestrian Centre different from the one I already have? Thank you for those contributions, I shall add them. :)

EDIT: I think I'm going to leave this project until I get my fan because I'm having such trouble searching for the addresses you're talking about without loading up my game.. As soon as I'm able to play I will search for the addresses and lot sizes and add them. :)

The Petite Equestrian Center is 40 x 40 instead of 60 x 60 so there is no need to take up the legacy lot between the altos and landgraabs.

I'm very glad to hear that.  Dynasties would be a mess without that lot!  And by a mess, I mean non-existent.  ;D

Thank you. :) I have changed it. I'm not sure if what I put is the actual address but the wiki says the Harts live on that road so it should be. I'll check when I get my laptop running. :) And like Pam said, that sure is a relief! xD
