Should I start my dynasty?
« on: December 01, 2011, 03:07:26 PM »
I've been wanting to start an immortal dynasty for a while now, and the only EP I don't have is WA. So my question is, is it worth it to start my dynasty before I buy WA or should I wait.

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, I didn't know where else to put this since the actual immortal dynasty topic is mainly used for questions regarding the rules and such.

It doesn't matter, it has nice decor but as long as you don't need to travel, yes you should.

I would say it depends on how soon you are getting WA.  There is certainly no harm in starting now while you are all excited to get going with it.

There are 3 disadvantages I can think of if you start before you get WA.  Only you can decide if any of these are so important to you that you think it would be better to wait.

1.  You won't have photographs in your immortal museum - but they are optional anyway so it's not a big deal.  I had a photographer in my first immortal dynasty but never remembered to take pictures.   ::)

2.  You won't have martial arts, nectar making, and photography available as supermax skills or the associated LTWs.  Photography isn't a big deal because it strikes me as a difficult skill to supermax, but MA is super easy and nectar making isn't bad either.

3.  You won't be able to travel.  Again, not a big deal.  The biggest advantage of travel is that your sims don't age while you are abroad, so it can be helpful to earn a level 3 visa and buy a vacation house so you can send your soon-to-be immortals there to supermax their chosen skills.  It's not difficult to supermax your skills without traveling, though.

Lots of good luck whenever you decide to start your dynasty!

I started mine with just Ambitions (and now Generations, as of yesterday), so thought I'd give you some input as a non-WA owner. I'm only on the birth of my third immortal-to-be, so not that far into it yet, but I don't think I've been too much hampered by not owning WA. As Katluver said you've got a few less skills and LTWs to choose from, but I've got a few spare skills with mine without WA and if you've got Pets and Late Night you've got more choices than me as well.

I will add that WA makes Gardening a much easier skill to Supermax. MUCH easier... But it's not a make-or-break thing.

Juxtaposition hasn't installed WA or a couple of the other expansions and she is very much almost done her dynasty.  She's in the YA stage of the 8th generation as we speak.  It didn't seem to hinder her at all in any way shape or form.

My dynasty might be failed already without WA. I used it to be able to supermax gardening without having to do the omni plant chain.

I managed to complete two dynasties without using any of the WA skills.Despite the fact that I have the expansion pack. If I were you I would write a list of skills you want as your families supermaz skills plus a couple of spares just in case and make a plan.
I am currently working on a dynasty where I plan on supermaxing the skills that I haven't used yet.

From the technical point of view, the Immortal Dynasty was designed so that even players with only the base game would be able to complete the requirements for all 8 generations.  It would be more difficult, of course, but it can absolutely be done.

Is there any chance you'll get World Adventures in the future?  Because it's the oldest expansion, the price is coming down.

I actually saw it at Target the other day for $30, which is tempting. I'm trying to save my money right now though since I got Generations and Pets in the same week. Hopefully I'll be able to get it soon.
