I did know about the "save as" option, but I've never used it. And since I had saved again since the corrupt save, I don't think it would've helped. But all is well in my new game :) And, the patch fixed the graphics issues. Huzzah!
The game has been kinda jerky though. It'll freeze momentarily for a few seconds at a time. That's kind of annoying.

Again, try a Global Reset:

Press Ctrl+Shift+C (or whatever the relevant buttons are on a Mac).
Type in exactly this (without quotation marks): "resetsim *"
Press Enter.

If it's freezing often, typically a Sim is stuck somewhere and the game's trying to save him/her.

New glitch! I hope you all aren't getting tired of me.

Anyway, it seems now that the school age Sims keep skipping. They'll get on the bus and go to school, but within an hour or so, they all go out the back door and leave. I've tried sending them back to school, but they just pop right back out the back door again. I've read some about this being a problem in the past. Do y'all think the new patch broke something? Anything I can do?

Also, that global reset cheat is my new best friend (which is kind of sad that I have to use it so often, but hey it works).
