Most valuable skull cuts

Is there a cap on how valuable skull cuts can be? What is the most profitable way to get a skull cut? Does the value of all the gems used count?  If so, would it be most profitable to use all soulpeace gems cut to the 5 highest values?

I got a few soulpeace skull cuts that were worth over 250,000.  I was really proud of them, then I moved my family from one town to another and the value went down to just over 2,500.00.  So I am not sure if anyone has gotten them to be a higher value and now I am trying to remember how I got those skull cuts, it has been so long.
