Nooboo help

When I put my toddlers to bed I make sure their hunger and social bars are full before I put them in the crib. Basically, I feed them on the floor, pick them up and snuggle them before I put them in the crib. Their hunger and social bars are as full as I can get them, yet they always are starving and craving attention before they are done sleeping. I let them sleep in the regular, not special crib.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is this the way nooboos are supposed to be? It just seems odd, I can understand that babies eat often and require a lot of attention, but to me their bars shouldn't be all the way down to the point they are screaming. At least maybe a half hour or so should be added as cushion in order to give the parents/caregivers time to reach them and care for their needs.

I raised two girls, who are teens now, and so I'm not a newb to babies. Just makes sense to me for the above to happen with the babies, but toddlers are usually mature enough to occupy themselves for at least a few minutes before exploding in tears from hunger or loneliness.

Others have thoughts on this? I realize this is just a game and may not fully resemble real life, but I'm just curious if everyone's nooboos behave like this or is it just a glitch in my game?

Yes, this happens all of the time and I am not new to babies either.  EA probably did this on purpose, because there is not alot of babies that do sleep through the night, at least newborns.  It does get wear on the parents nerves, but I think that is the idea.

It may be a glitch, or more probably you're sadly just in for bad luck. Sometimes I have had a baby that was really annoying to my sims, but normally it's just about to endure it. I personally usually leave the babies on the floor, go watch television and then give them a bottle after two/three/four hours when they start screaming. Ha, ha, this'll probably make me appear as a bad sim-parent, but my babies normally get a perfect childhood anyways.

Of course, the possibility of you having a glitch exists, but it is not fully certain.

:D Nah, it's just the game intentionally trying to get on your nerves.

I actually don't mind this part at all in the Sims. It is common yes, but it does capture the real side of parenthood (honestly I have yet to figure that out because I'm not quite ready for kids yet) but the way I've heard it is sometimes babies can keep parents up all night, or wake them in the middle of their sleep, so it doesn't surprise me if I'm waking up the mom to come and get her child because she doesn't need to work the next day like the dad does or vise-versa. Anyways, the reason why I like this is because it's not a guessing game. In the Sims 2 you couldn't tell what your infants needed. You had to just wing it and hope for the best, you could never see their needs bars or wants. You would never know if they needed a hug or a bottle... Sims 3 makes that so much easier, so just as long as I know what they want, I honestly don't mind waking someone up to get it done.

A good part of it is the game, like everyone said.  However, it does help to have the expensive crib (the one with a canopy).  My current toddlers have the nice cribs and they are lonely when they wake up, but they aren't starving.  In fact, their hunger bar is only about halfway down.  They sit and talk to themselves in the crib for a little while until the parents get up.  It also helps to have them go potty right before bed.  Even if they aren't totally potty trained, you can still sit them on the potty before bed and they'll get a full green bladder bar.

Thank you all for the great responses!!! I suppose it is EA's way of making it so the parents don't get as much sleep as they would have had they had no kids. And yes, it certainly does help to have the social bars for their needs unlike the Sims and Sims 2 where you had to guess. I just wish it were more realistic where it varied from kid to kid how often they wake cranky or otherwise. And Pam I will give the canopy crib a try, sometimes the parents I have just cannot afford it though.

Thanks again,

Lisa

Oh, Chelkey, something else I forgot to mention.  If you put a teddy bear in the baby's inventory, he'll get a positive Cuddle Time moodlet.  I don't know if this helps specifically with the crankiness, but it's good for mood overall.

I get what you have described all the time, my sims do what you do, get up in the middle of the night, do what they have to do, go back to sleep. That's why you see new parents or people with new baby brothers and sisters in the same house don't get enough sleep!

You know the mummified teddy bear you can buy in Al Simhara? Does that also give baby the Cuddle Time moodlet? I've always put a teddy in the crib for my babies because it looks right; my new Sims haven't had a baby yet but I do have the mummy teddy so I'm just wondering if that would come up.

Yes, the Mummified Teddy Bear gives the same +20 Cuddle Time Moodlet as the standard bear. I was curious myself and just tested it.

No horrible Mummy-baby side effects? That was my concern! It didn't seem very likely, given that they don't like horrible things to happen to Sim babies, but I had been wondering about it.

It certainly wasn't a thorough test. I just threw one in a kid's Inventory and put them to bed and the Moodlet popped up, same as with a regular bear. I can't imagine there being a chance of being cursed or something nasty like that, but it's Sims, so you never know!  ;D

I've raised several generations with the Mummy teddy bear, no problems so far.  :)
