Unfinished Room Moodlet
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:43:21 AM »
So, I built my Sims a new house and I thought it would be very nice if they had an indoor swimming pool. Placed the swimming room, built around it and then I placed windows on all the available wallspace to make a beautiful sunny room. I also added some gym equipment and, figuring with all the windows it would inspire my artistic Sim, added an easel. When the house was finished, started to play and the first thing I did was to get Lucille (artistic Sim) to go and paint. I sent Rafael (her husband) to go practice board breaking and as I switched back to Lucille I noticed this moodlet. I've never come across it before, and it's only coming up in the pool-sun room.
The first thing I did was go into build mode, double check that the wall surrounded the room; I put new flooring down, checked that the wall covering covered the walls, checked I had lights on the ceiling. All present and correct, still having this moodlet.
I've sent them on holiday at the moment, so I've been thinking about this moodlet. There are two things that are sort of coming to mind:
1. I may need to check that my windows are all facing the same way - ie I've not got some windows facing out and others facing in. I figure that could create this moodlet
2. The house consists of a basement, ground floor and above part of the ground floor a first floor. The pool room is on the ground floor, and I'm wondering if the high ceiling in that room is creating the moodlet. I've checked to make sure that the roof covers the room, and it does, but because the roof essentially covers another floor I'm wondering if it's simpy just too high, and maybe I ought to place a floor on the next floor above the pool room to give it a ceiling?

I'm going to check both of those things out, but if anyone could offer any further suggestions as to what could be causing it, I'd be grateful; and I was wondering if anyone else had 'finished' a room and got this moodlet afterwards?

[Edit by me: I'm thinking I should have put this in the misc help section of the forum; any chance it could be moved? Thank you and sorry]

How about placing a flooring underneath your roof?

Edit: Owh, ok. You're doing that.

That's what my number 2 was about; although I've over explained it lol. That's going to be the first thing I do when they get home, because that's the easier option over checking the windows. Thank you :) at least I know someone else thinks that may work.

Just one quick easy question that you've so far said nothing about in your posts.

Have you painted or put wallpaper on the walls? Both inside and outside?

I believe it's something to do with the roof. I've had this 'unfinished room' business. I never actually got to solve it because that file went corrupt when I moved it around. But the reason I relate it to the roof is because the bug happened when I did something with the roof. Back then, I didn't think of putting flooring under the roof.

Anyway, if it doesn't work, you could try removing all the wall covering then covering the wall again all whilst holding the shift key.

There is wallpaper inside and out; including on any external or internal walls that come with the roof. I can only assume that Lucille is pouting because there's no 'ceiling' as such, even though there is a roof.

Moved the thread for you. No problem.

I've only gotten this moodlet from rooms that misses:
A roof (just lack of a ceiling doesn't give the moodlet though)
All-covering walls
Wallpaper
Floor tiles

Since you have gotten all of these, the game must have calculated this wrongly (i.e. a glitch). I know for sure that windows placed backwards is not the culprit since I sometimes put them that way by mistake and then sees it like 3 generations later, with no problems at all.

Thank you, you're a gentleman :)

If the window thing is ruled out then I'm guessing it must be the ceiling. I've recovered the walls and floor twice - basically as soon as I noticed the moodlet that's what I went to do first - so I'm hoping it's the ceiling thing.

It is technically not the ceiling that is to wrong in that case. It must be the roof itself; maybe it's not covering the whole room?
I had once a gigantic hall, three stories high with a variety of statues and paintings around. For that, I of course didn't have a ceiling for the individual floors, it was all totally open space, but above the hall I had a roof and I didn't get that negative moodlet.

Now when I come to think about it, does even a roofless room get this moodlet? You never get it outside, so I can't see why you would get it in a roofless room...

Looks like PJ found the answer!

Then I deleted the pool, underneath it was grass so I added carpet. The room is no longer unfinished, yay!

Thank you, that's brilliant :D I'm going to do that tomorrow; and then I won't have that annoying moodlet. I did put a ceiling in and it still came up, so I'm glad I know whats causing it now.

I had the same issue too when trying to make an indoor pool. I'll try the carpet method too and see if that works.

It worked! :)

When you delete the pool you can see the grass, so although -we- would think of it as covered the Sims can still 'see' the grass.
Thank you for finding an answer to my problem, cheers :)

Indoor pools in TS2 never had this problem lol!
