About how would it take to reinstall everything?
« on: March 05, 2012, 06:44:56 PM »
I'm planing to uninstall The Sims and do a clean install and was wondering if I could get a general idea of how long it takes before I start.
I have all the expansions and all the stuff packs except for Master Suite.

If you have any stuff packs, they typically take less time to download than they do to install from disc.  I can download a stuff pack in about 2 minutes.

That's good to know, I'll keep in mind the next time.
I started reinstalling this morning so I've got all the disk installed. Just have to get Pets downloaded now. I forgot how big it was.

With the Digital Downloads is there a way to save it to you hard drive so you don't have to download it again when doing a fresh install?

Not really, no (at least not as far as I'm aware).  Even if you managed to save the installer to your hard drive, it would still have to download the game files it needs to install.

As a Mac, where I go to download the games ( I can't use Origin) they give us a .dmg file so we're able to just download then install the game as for PC users, I have no idea.

I figured as much. But you can save the installer to your hard drive.
With Origin open go under settings, General and put a check in the the box next to Keep Game Installers after the Game is Installed.
And below that you can select where you want to save the installer file.
But like you said it still has to download the game files.

I just did a fresh install this week.  I didn't time the removal of the game, but the installation with disks took exactly two hours.
