Learning Ambrosia Recipe

Is there a way to learn the recipe for Ambrosia without paying 12,000 simoleons? If so, what are the ways and are they better and more efecient than buying the recipe?

I'm pretty sure unless you find a sim who knows the recipe to get it from, (I'm pretty sure there isn't one) you have to buy it.

If I find myself needing the Ambrosia recipe, I just wait until there's a sale at the bookstore. Sometimes, they will discount up to 45%.

If you have Late Night and a few celebrity stars, you can sometimes get it for big discount or free.  Another way is to trade kitchen secrets with another Sim, usually they need to work at the restaurant and you might need to have Natural Cook as a trait.  There is no guarantee you'll get the Ambrosia recipe unless you've learned every other recipe in the game already.

Done a little expermenting to see some different saveings and you can get a discount for some LTR.
A sim with Haggler can get it for 10,320
A sim with Bookshop Bargainer can get it for 9,000
A sim with both can get it for  7,680
And I tried a 5 star celeb with both LTR and he got for free once and for 4,903 the next time.

You can also learn it from watching the cooking channel on your tv.

In my bugged dynasty attempt my sim learned all recipies from his colleagues, he didn't buy any.

Waiting til your sim is a high level celebrity can also help.  Although it certainly isn't reliable, I've had a celeb discount that when combined with a 45% sale brought the price of the recipe to well under two grand.

I bought the book, my Sim has the skill level 10 and she's grown the (perfect) life plant along with the omni and money tree (which keeps dropping seeds!!).  She got the death fish too.  It took me a very long long time for her to find the life plant seeds.  Anyway I finally got all the ingredients and I can't make it!  When I open her inventory to "read" the book, the "read" is all greyed out  When I click on the fridge no matter what time of day, there is no Ambrosia option.  What else do I need to do? 

The last cooking challenge was the steak challenge which gave me the ability to grow the omni plant.  I have no other cooking challenges so far.  Do I have to wait until the computer prompts me another cooking challenge to learn the Ambrosia recipe.

I have the EP Late Night and Loft stuff.  Any help would be appreciated.  Mahalo!

Welcome to the forum Blue Jade Hawaii! Have you already read the recipe book? Are you sure your sim is level 10 cooking? Make sure the ingredients are in the fridge, click the fridge and choose "Have Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch/Dinner". Don't choose serve because ambrosia is served in single portions and cannot be prepared for a group. You don't need to complete any opportunities or challenges to make ambrosia- You just need to be level 10 cooking, have read the book and have all the ingredients. Hope this helps!

It's important to note that the omni plant challenge is a Gardening opportunity, not a Cooking one, Are you sure you're level 10 in Cooking, not just Gardening?

If you'll hover over the grayed out "Read", it will tell you the reason your Sim cannot read the book.  My first guess is that your Sim does not have level 10 in Cooking, which is required to be able to learn the Ambrosia recipe.

Mahalo to everyone.  When I went to the fridge the next day, the Ambrosia was there. I don't know what I did wrong, maybe I didn't see it or I clicked on the group.  Now I'm making Ambrosia weekly to get my Sim happy.  I appreciate you replying as I know this was an old thread but didn't know where to put it.  Again, Happy Simming
