Important Notes

Sims 4 and other EA/Origin games are connected to your Origin account. So you won't loose access to the games you have purchased. Download and install Origin on your computer and the games should be in the Games Library tab in Origin.

The game codes for the games are stored in the Windows registry. Also Origin keeps note that you've registered the game when you purchased it. That's why it shows up in the Games Library tab and why it skips the game code when installing the game.

The disc version is the same as the digital version. It should download the game without needing any patches as it picks up the patches as it's downloading and installing on your computer.

The Sims 4 folder remains after you've uninstalled the game. This folder will need to be moved to the desktop or backup media of choice.

After installing or reinstalling Sims 4, you need to log into Origin, select Sims 4 and click Play, then exit the game. This will create the Sims 4 folder in C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

If you want to play your save games, and use the creations you have in your library. The Saves and Tray folders will need to be copied over to the new folder and replaced.

See this post for more details on what to copy over to the new folder.

How to Install and/or Reinstall Sims 4

1. Log into your Origin Account with the username and password you used to purchased the game with.
2. Click on the Games Library tab, right-click on the Sims 4 and select Download. This will allow you to download base game and choose which packs you want to download/install.

The download process includes any bonus items for registering different game versions/guides.

Digital Deluxe and Premium are the same versions. - Premium was just a limited time only edition.

** There should be no need for the game code, as Origin already has that information. However, if you have this problem, please read the link below for more information.

How to Uninstall Sims 4

There's two ways to uninstall Sims 4, via Origin or the Control Panel

Via Origin

1. Uninstall the game via Origin. [Right-click Sims 4 and select Uninstall.]
2. Close out of Origin, and run Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner. (Or some other registry cleaner)

Run Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner (Standard Edition is Free)
-- This helps clean up temporary files, internet cache files and other files that are left behind that are no longer being used.

Move the Electronic Arts Folder

Moving the Electronic Arts folder to a different drive can be done. However it needs to be done a certain way, It can't just be copied from one drive to another, as the game will not know the new location, and therefore create a new user folder.

It's best to turn off, disable or uninstall OneDrive so it doesn't move or mess with your files on your documents folder. -- This is best to do before moving the Documents or Electronic Arts folders.

How-To: Backup the Install Files

This is very useful if you want to save the files for back up or if you don't want to have to re-download later. ** It is recommended to do a new backup each time a new pack is released. So it is kept up to date.

1. Once the game has fully downloaded go to the folder you installed it in.
2. Right-Click and Select your zip utility
3. Add to or Compress Sims 4.zip
4. Once zipped, move to backup media of your choice.

How-To: Reinstall Using the Zipped Folder
- Simplified version.

1. Navigate to where the zipped file is stored and place a copy to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games (which is the default folder)
2. Unzip it - right-click the file and choose your zip utility and extract file here.
-- The extraction may take awhile.
3. Once that is done, open/login to Origin and mouse over Sims 4 to finish up the install. - This should only take a couple of minutes at most.
4. You're ready to play!!

Uninstall a Pack?

There is no way at this time to uninstall just this or that pack. Origin is not set up that way.

If you find you've downloaded/installed a pack you don't like/want you'll have to uninstall the whole game and re-download/install the packs you want

to install (How-To Uninstall the Game) / (How-To Install the Game)

However, if you have the whole game downloaded and backed up How To Backup the Install Files. You can take your backup and use it to install just the packs you want.

-- This speeds up the downloading/installing to almost instant!! :)

If you want to keep the game from reinstalling for example, the Vampire pack, you will need to turn off auto updates in the Origin settings, and manually check for updates yourself.

Turning Off Origin/Game Updates
http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=21898.msg459890#msg459890

When updating, you will need to cancel out the vampires pack from the installation queue each time there is a game update.

It should start downloading and installing the packs you have chosen. However, if it doesn't. Go to the Extra Content tab under Sims 4's Play or Download button and click the Download button next to the packs you want to install.

Alternatively, you could try:

Disable Single Packs
http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2017/03/disable-single-packs/

Pack Codes - you can find the codes the different packs below:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_4#Expansions,_add-ons_and_editions

**Note:** Yes, you could remove the different pack folders in the Sims 4 install directory. But this is NOT advised. As it could severely mess up your game!!

Re-install a Pack

Log into Origin > Games Library > Sims 4 - Scroll past the Play button to find the Extra Content tab. Click on it to find what packs you have available.

Scroll to the pack section and click the install button of the pack you want to install. It will then download and install.

If you find that you have installed the pack, but it's not showing up in game. Repair Game first. - Right-click Sims 4 and select Repair.
