Reset Sim Cheat; Rescuing Sims when they're stuck
« on: January 08, 2010, 03:54:31 PM »
Sometimes Sims can get stuck in a place they can't get out of, an object might be stuck to your Sim or they may simply stop moving and will not respond no matter what you do.

This makes Sims unhappy. :(

There's a way to fix that. :)

First open the cheat window by holding down Ctrl + Shift + C; all three keys at once. This will pause the game and make the screen a little darker.

Now type the cheat resetSim Firstname Lastname and press enter.
You should of course use the name of the Sim that needs help. Make sure everything is spelled correctly and exactly as shown (it may be case sensitive) and remember the spaces; you won't get an error message if it's not right, it just won't work.

For example if Gobias Koffi is stuck, type: resetSim Gobias Koffi.

This will return the Sim to a "safe and neutral state" which means they will appear somewhere on their home lot with all their needs in the green. This works for all Sims, not just the ones you're controlling.
It may sometimes cancel their wishes or moodlets but it's still better than having a guitar glued to your head.

If you need to reset all Sims in your current game the code is:
resetSim *

Yeah my brother had trouble with something similar to this. He was in Egypt and was doing an adventure where he was required to get an item. He got it, and went back to the person that needed the item. He clicked the dude, chose the interaction to complete the adventure, and then stood there forever without doing anything. He called me in to ask me about it and both his sim and the npc seemed just fine. I used this cheat on the npc and redid the interaction which worked just fine this time. So just a warning to other players: Sometimes an npc seems just fine but if you can't interact with them (can't click on them/the problem my brother had), use this cheat on the npc, then your sim if it still doesn't work. By the way, if you're playing a legacy and unsure if this breaks the rules, it doesn't.

Thanks so much. I thought my legacy was going to end on the 7th generation.

{Gives you a big hug for helping}

Another website gave me the wrong information, I can't remember what website it was though.

I had an issue the night before Ambitions came out so didn't really worry about it, but I had my Sims become stuck at 0001hrs Monday morning.  I could free them using the described method but they would become stuck again.  I could reload a save from Saturday and they would be fine but then get stuck again at 0001hrs Monday again?

The game didn't slow down or anything.

This occured in the Sims home.  The first time it happened they were each stuck trying to get into bed.  They stood at the edge of the bed facing in, but the animation never started for them to get into the bed.

I had thrown 2 parties that weekend, each of my sims being the host for one of them.

You might have a corrupted file since the same thing keeps happening at the exact spot.  You could try restoring the previous save.  Click here for instructions.

Does anyone know what to do if the game does not respond to Ctrl + Shift + C ?  I've tried it several times, but nothing happens.  All my Sims became stuck at the same time - it was night, and they're all stuck in bed and won't respond to anything.  I've also had several other issues since the update.  :(

That very same thing happened to me.  They all got stuck in bed.  Best thing is to just exit the game and start again.  That worked for me.

@ SonomaSim - If you are having this problem it's probably because your computer opens another program when you press the [ctrl]+[shift]+c when you are not in the game.  If this is the case it won't allow you to open the cheat box within the game.

To fix this
1. Log out of your game and go to your desktop
2. Press [ctrl]+[shift]+c to figure out what program it opens (for example - it used to open HP Health Center on my Laptop)
3. Now close the program that [ctrl]+[shift]+c opened
4. Go to start (on desktop) or to your desktop if the shortcut is already there
5. Find and RIGHT click on the shortcut that you opened in step 2
6. Click properties
7. Go to shortcut tab
8. Change the shortcut to something that's not being used like [ctrl]+[shift]+h (it will tell you if your new one conflicts with another program)
9. Don't forget to click Apply

Now go into your game and see if the cheat box will open up for you.   ;)

Not sure if this should go here or in the sims 3 console thread. This has happened to me on the PS3 where there is no cheat console. Any help?

Hi... forum noob, here. I really don't like using the 'cheat' console in the game, but I admit, I have had to sometimes to reset a stuck Sim.

I had a really badly timed stuck Sim once; wish I'd captured it to show here. One of the NPC Sims died while waiting for a cab outside the bookshop in Bridgeport... I'd sent one of my Sims to buy a book and then come home, but they never did! When I went to bookshop to check, she and all these other NPC Sims were staring and mourning at this floating ghost waiting on the curb for a cab. The ghost wouldn't move on and neither would anyone else, although they were all still animated. I bit the bullet, reset the Sim... and then a few days later, I see her reading a book in the park, alive and well! Or so I thought! Every time my Sim or a NPC came near her, the mourning thought bubble would appear above their heads! ZOMBIE SIM! I worried how this would affect the gameplay from there on, so I reset the Sim again and I haven't seen her since.

Has anyone else experienced this, that if you reset a ghost Sim, they come back to life... so to speak? Bear in mind, mine was a NPC and recently deceased and stuck. I imagine the odds of forcing this scenario would be quite tricky in order to test it, but I swear it really happened! Has anyone else experienced it by any chance?

You might want to edit the first post to include the reset all command below:

resetSim *

This is a must know for anyone experiencing the Bridgeport bugs. ::)

You should probably delete the * before your thank you for the picture, or people might get confused and think that the command is just resetSim rather than resetSim *

Reset sim didn't work for me?? My family returned from China and all FOUR of them are blended into the one Sim, standing in the middle of nowhere miles away from their home. Zombie family!  :o None of them can move or do a thing. aaahh. I tried to reset them as individuals and as resetsim * but didn't move

Actually I don't think resetting them will help, as they are reset in the same place, they just drop the action they were doing. Seeing as your Sims weren't doing anything, I think resetsim is useless. Have you tried commanding them to walk somewhere or do something?

Normally, Resetsim sends Sims back home.

If nothing works and if you can access Edit Town, try to move the family to the clipboard (without home) and then move them back in their home (or another one). They should be back home like that.

It doesn't for me. It just resets my Sim wherever they are (at home or at the park), canceling all current or scheduled actions.

Come on, guys.  This isn't really a conversation thread.  It's just to give information.  If someone needs specific help about a problem, it needs to be addressed in its own thread.  We don't want someone to have to weed through all of this stuff thinking there's something else to be found that's not in the original post.

I'm not entirely sure that the reset code works with Medieval.  I'll ask Carl to come by and see if he has an answer.

I'm afraid it just doesn't exist in Medieval. The closest you can come to moving a Sim out of a pickle is to teleport cheat (after enabling such cheats), and that would only work for certain 'stuck' situations.

It does. You have to turn on the testing cheats and either simply click or shift-click, can't remember, on your Sim. Something like 'reset' will appear, click it, should work.

One of my sims got stuck and the cheat didn't work.  I put it in just as you all said.  Of course I hadn't saved so I lost everything since the last save.  It's my story family.  But before that she kept falling through the floor of the main floor and down into the basement for some reason.

resetSim Leliana Greene.

Doesn't matter just went back to old save I happened to have.

I think it might have been because I used moveobjects on to move her.  Oh, well.  No biggy.  She and hubby are doing much better this time around.  No mods.  I just get free stuff from the sims 3 store.

My problem is a little different. My sim is in his vacation home in France and is sitting and reading a book. The book isn't there. He just keeps making a turning pages motion. Clicking on the action to cancel it does nothing. The big red X appears over the action box, but he keeps reading anyway. His skill isn't improving and his needs appear not to decrease at all even though time is passing.

I've done the resetSim * cheat, but nothing happens. What's happening here?

Why does this game have so many glitches in it??? I had to press Ctrl+ shift+ c and enter "resetSim Fristname Lastname"  several times just to get it to work, on the 5th time i used this code my sim character ended up in a building that was blacked out, that my sim did NOT live in. The Sim i created is also a vampire. The sim froze while she was performing on the electric guitar, after the 7th time entering this code the electric guitar is no longer in the sims inventory, and having to buy another guitar. Now it is freezing in buy mode and wont go back to Living mode. There is nothing wrong with the computer i am using. My boyfriend is a computer tech and he personally built his computer and i have not have any problems with playing any other game besides the Sims 3.

Welcome to our Forum, rena_phoenix.

I suggest you start a new topic for your issues because it's clearly not just an issue of resetting your Sim.  It should go on this same Technical Help Board and please be as specific as you can with the title of it.

I have a similar problem too :( Each time I want my sim to take a shower it stands in front of the shower for hours and nothing happens. The time passes by, the green bars become yellow or even red but nothing happens. I can't force the sim to do anything else and I can't cancel teh showering activity. I tried the resetsim code, it helps for that moment, but when I send the sim to take a shower again it happens once again. It's very annoying because "the life" goes on, but the sim doesn't respond. Please help :(

Just today in my sims household, one of my sim dies from electric shock. She was a garderner, she have many death flower in her inventory. But when Grim came, he couldn't move as well as my sim(due to lack of space and people mourning). I thought he will move after some time, but he keep asking for space/toe tapping. This keep happening for 5 sim hours. So, i become bored and reset my sim. Suprisingly, she become alive(singed) and the grim vanish. All i want is to thank the reset sim cheat for saving my sim and the day. I was so bored that i even thought to reload the file.

Hi there guys and gals, just adding in if it hasn't already. I have played both PC, XBOX and PS3 versions of this game, I love em but if you need to reset or rescue your sim on your PS3 console you need to....

Hover on/over your mailbox and press L@ on your game controller.  Option to Reset Sim should pop up.  Remember the Sim's name and just scroll and select which Sim needs resetting.  If it doesn't work, try moving your mailbox away from the walls.  If that doesn't work, try R2 button on controller.

My sim was stuck, I tried dragging her to Egypt  (her husband had to call she canceled all actions including the teleport me here from testingcheats) so they both went to Egypt fine, they both did adventures while there, untell they got home she stuck as soon as they arrived, I looked it up and found this, it worked for getting my sim off the edge of the water she was then in her home lot.. stuck there, I tried a few times to move her with no prevail I told her husband to kiss her, he walked over but the action stopped.. but then while he was walking away she walked to moved out of his way, she still wouldn't do what I told her, I instructed him to kiss her again, this time she did, and then I could control her again.

I know this comment is old and probably resolved but for any new people I'd just like to say, try deleting the shower itself, and then buying a new one, I've had the same issue with many objects (fridges, beds) after deleting the glitched object it stops, just make sure no sim is trying to use it or it wont let you pick it up

I had a Sim visit my home and when I clicked on him to invite him in, he disappeared! Searched the entire lot, and couldn't find him. Also, when I went to invite him over again with my cell phone, his name wasn't even on the list!  :o What do I do?? Should I use the reset cheat or is this a bigger problem? Please help!

I'm not sure if this is already in here, I couldn't see it... Feel free to delete if I missed it!

I have been trying to search how to reset my Sim that was stuck on a lot and NOTHING would work. No teleporting or resetSim FirstName LastName etc.

So this is what I was able to do:

- Downloaded the NRAss Master Controller mod.

- I could not click on myself, so I had my housemate selected and then clicked NRAss > Master Controller > Household > Reset Lot.

This sent my Sim back to my household lot and all of the deficits they had gotten (red in bladder, hunger and sleep). I'm pretty sure this may only work if you have more than 1 person in your household.

I hope this helps others from searching around like a mad-person.

Sometimes when you have " Testingcheatsenabled true " activated, it messes with your game especially if you also have " moveobjects on " activated aswell. So this code is very useful. <3
