I have a new comp that can handle the Sims 3, but I'm worried about that old bug that would cause the Sims 3 to run at too high a frame rate. Do I still have to worry about that, or did an update fix it?

I've heard that myth. It's not really true. Newer video cards are made to handle the stress of graphic taxing games such as Sims 3. As long as you have good ventilation and a quality power supply that can handle the video card you should be good to go.
