Simfest and steady gig problem

My acrobat is on level 9 but still only has 1 steady gig and is still really struggling to even get gigs. I also have no idea how to take part in a Simfest. Whenever I get the notification that a simfest is taking place I send her there but the only option she has is to watch the show and if I click on the proprietor there is no option to ask to take part. What am I doing wrong?!

A Simfest is just like a gig, except you ask to perform, a proprietor is at the Simfest, all you do is ask them. A Sim wins and gets a prize. If you try to get a gig you have to audition, in a Simfest all you do is ask. Some people just don't want the Sim, every time my Sim auditions for a gig and is told sorry I don't think you're ready, they perform perfectly.
